If you’re planning to celebrate the Fourth of July in Orlando this year, something has changed that you need to know about.

Fourth of July is usually marked by lots of food, family, friends, and lots of fireworks. But this year, the fireworks may be at issue in Orange County, Florida. A new law could drastically change how the holiday is celebrated in Orlando this year.
According to The Orlando Sentinel, tougher fireworks restrictions are on the way for Orange County. Now, instead of an officer needing to see the alleged violation to issue a citation, a citizen complaint or video will suffice. The new rule will go into effect in about 10 days, right before July 4th.

Now, a person must “obtain a $100 county permit for ‘public display of fireworks or pyrotechnics'” and if there’s a violation, an officer can issue a cease and desist order. Based on probable cause, a citation can be issued — $200 for a first offense, $400 for a second, and $500 for subsequent infractions, plus a mandatory court appearance for the offender.

So, why the change? Well, residents of Waterfront Estates have been dealing with exploding mortars for months now. Orange County citizens are still welcome to launch fireworks, they just need to follow the proper steps to make sure they are in accordance with the law.

The good news is that Magic Kingdom’s Fourth of July fireworks (and nightly fireworks shows) are not impacted by the new rules.
