Universal’s Epic Universe has finally opened, and fans are buzzing about the new theme park, especially one of its coolest new lands — Dark Universe!

This isn’t just your typical spooky zone; it’s a whole immersive world where Universal’s legendary monsters come alive with creepy vibes, incredible details, and stories that actually pull at your heartstrings. And speaking of heartstrings, there was a really touching moment on opening day that perfectly captures the spirit of the Dark Universe. Let’s check it out!
On opening day, a heartfelt moment unfolded that perfectly captures how much the Dark Universe resonates with fans. In an Instagram post, Brendon Kleya, one of the creative directors behind the Dark Universe, shared a touching detail — a fan had left a special tribute in a meaningful spot within the land.
The caption says, “4 years ago I found this statue and immediately knew it had to become the grave marker for little Maria. If you are unfamiliar with who that is, she’s the little girl that the Frankenstein monster accidentally drowns in the original film. Sitting in meetings. I always said that if the guests understand what we’re trying to do, there will be flowers on her grave on day one. I cannot express the overwhelming emotion that I felt today when I saw it. Whoever you are, whoever went as far as bringing a flower for Maria’s grave on opening day, thank you.”
We recently stopped by, and sure enough, there was a flower lying in front of the statue.

This heartfelt detail shows how much fans love Universal Classic Monsters and the stories they’ve come to know so well. We love that someone took the time to recognize this special easter egg and bring joy to one of the creators behind Darkmoor.

Darkmoor is the heart of Dark Universe—a fog-covered, gothic town where monsters aren’t just legends, they’re very much alive. Everything here feels like it was pulled straight out of a classic horror film, from the cracked stone buildings and crooked chimneys to the eerie sounds that bring the town to life.

What really sets Darkmoor apart, though, is how alive it feels. Characters roam the streets, stories can be discovered at every corner, and the environment itself seems to react—whether it’s flickering lanterns, the distant howl of a wolf echoing through the wind, or hidden details that reward curious eyes. This land was made for fans to live the stories they’ve always dreamed of.
