REVIEW: Did This Hotel Restaurant Solve Our Breakfast Problems in Disney World?

Planning a trip to Disney World and not sure where you should eat while you’re there? Luckily, you’ve come to the right place, because we can help with that!

Disney’s BoardWalk Inn

Here at AllEars, we know all the ins and outs of Disney World restaurants — including where you should definitely eat, and where you should skip. We recently stopped by Trattoria Al Forno at Disney’s BoardWalk and are bringing you our FULL review for breakfast!

Background

Trattoria Al Forno showcases classic Italian cuisine including handcrafted mozzarella made daily, fresh cavatelli pasta and pizzas baked in wood-burning ovens.

Trattoria al Forno

You’ll find it located between Abracadabar and the Ample Hills Ice Cream shop. It opened on December 18th, 2014.

Atmosphere

This is a bit more of an upscale dining experience, but don’t worry, you don’t need to be dressed up to dine here.

Inside Trattoria al Forno

Don’t forget to look up to take in the gorgeous lighting fixtures all throughout!

Gorgeous!

The tables here are a little close together, so some larger parties may feel the slightest bit claustrophobic, but we love that, depending on where you’re sitting, you can look directly into the kitchen and see them preparing meals!

But now it’s time to sit down and eat!

Food & Drinks

The menu here isn’t super large for breakfast, so if you’re looking for a restaurant with loads of different options, this may not be the best fit.

Breakfast Menu

We started out with drinks — our alcoholic beverage of choice was the Peach Bellini for $15.50, which is made with Ruffino Prosecco with White Peach Purée. The prosecco here is smooth with a bit of bitterness to it, but all the peach puree all falls to the bottom, so make sure you give this drink a good stir before drinking. This was pretty small for the price, and we do feel it was a little light on the peach flavor. The alcohol was strong here, so keep that in mind.

We also grabbed a non-alcoholic option, the Watermelon No-Jito for $5.99. This is essentially a watermelon mojito without the alcohol and was really tasty! You get a light flavor of watermelon with some notes of lime and mint, and has a little bit of fizz to it. We do think the mint outweighed the watermelon a little bit, so we would have liked to see that balanced a little more, but overall, it’s a good mocktail option.

As for the food, we grabbed the Al Forno Eggs for $17, which is Brick Oven-roasted Cage-free Eggs, Polenta, Fennel Sausage, Spiced Tomato Sauce, Country Bread. This is a VERY healthy platter with lots of different textures and flavors. The polenta lends a grainy texture to the eggs and the fennel sausage is chopped up into small pieces and adds a great bit of herbiness and meatiness. The bread is on the crispier side, which works great with the egg mixture below, and our only complaint is we wish there was a bit more sausage. Otherwise, we were very impressed and look forward to the day we can eat it again!

We also tried the Oak-grilled Steak and Eggs for $21, which is Sunny-side Up Eggs, Breakfast Potatoes, Crispy Onions, Hollandaise Sauce. You can get the steak cooked to you liking here — we chose medium, and got a pretty perfect rendition of that. The steak has a great char and smokiness to it, and the potatoes were cooked perfectly, being crispy on the outside and soft inside. We could have done with a little more seasoning on them, but overall, it made us happy!

Finally, we grabbed the Freshly Harvested Fruit with Honey Yogurt, made with Fresh Berries and House-made Granola for $15. The yogurt itself here is plain but comes with honey drizzled on top, followed by the perfectly fresh fruit on top and the crunchy granola.

It’s a fantastic lighter option if you don’t want something heavy for breakfast!

Magic or Tragic?

This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • You’re staying at Disney’s BoardWalk
  • You’re looking for a slightly more upscale breakfast
  • You want to dine somewhere close to EPCOT or Hollywood Studios but not inside either park

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

  • You want something with a larger menu
  • You’ve got pickier eaters OR picky kids with you
  • You’re looking for more than one lighter breakfast option
Full Spread

Overall, we think this is a solid breakfast spot, but it’s not somewhere you’re going to want to take a special trip over for. If you’re staying at a hotel nearby, we think it’s a good option, but otherwise, we have other favorite spots you may be closer to.

In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to AllEars for the latest Disney news and more!

  1. Our only complaint is on the 2 eggs breakfast they want to give you bacon and sausage when I asked for only sausage and wanted a side of toast instead of the bacon I had to go through the manager and she made me feel like she was doing me a favor. I did get the toast but will never go back I got one piece instead of the usual 2 piece for substitute for the bacon what is it with toast over there at ale and compass they did away with toast all together and you get a Mickey waffle with the 2 eggs breakfast who ever is doing the menu needs to be replaced. So when is toast not offered with your breakfast
