NEW LOOK at Disney’s Upcoming ‘Zootopia 2’ Movie

Later this year, we will be getting the highly anticipated sequel for one of Disney’s most beloved animated movies!

Fans have been waiting for the sequel to Zootopia since its release in 2016. Nearly a decade later and it’s finally coming. We didn’t get a ton of news, and no we didn’t get trailer yet (sigh). BUT, we did get a first look at one of the new characters — and she’s adorable!

Zootopia came to theatres in 2016, and fans instantly fell in love with it. The movie grossed over $1 billion worldwide, so to call this movie a global hit wouldn’t be an exaggeration. It became the third highest-grossing film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios — only behind Frozen and Frozen 2. Zootopia was also succesful at the 89th Academy awards, taking home the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2017! Everyone was all in on Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.

Since then, Disney has given fans what they wanted — more Zootopia! In November of 2022 Disney debuted a short-form series continuing off the movie called Zootopia+, which is available exclusively on Disney+. In December of 2023, the Zootopia world entered the theme parks for the very first time ever! “Zootopia Land” opened in Shanghai Disney Resort, a highly immersive land that makes you feel like you’re living in the animal world straight from the movie. Please let this come to one of the North American Parks Disney! The land’s E-Ticket experience is a trackless dark ride called “Zootopia: Hot Pursuit” — a feat in Imagineering as it won the 2025 Thea Award for “Outstanding Achievement in a Theme Park Land”.

It might not be a Zootopia Land, but Disney World is getting something too! Later this year Judy and Nick will call the Tree of Life in Animal Kingdom home. The attraction is called “Zootopia: Better Zoogether”, and it will be a new show debuting in the winter of 2025. It will be replacing “It’s Tough To Be A Bug”, which has unfortunately already closed its doors for good.

And now that takes us to what you came here for, Zootopia 2. Judy and Nick will be continuing their adventure on the big screen this year, where they will tackle new problems. Reptiles will be introduced into the world, which is something that wasn’t explored in the first film. Gary the Snake, played by the beloved Ke Huy Quan, will be joining the crew for the sequel.

Who else is joining the crew? Disney Animation just announced a new character on their Instagram, stating “NEW ANIMAL JUST DROPPED” — and this fuzzy little friend is so cute. Everyone, we introduce you to the quokka therapist, Dr. Fuzzby! She will be voiced by the talented Quinta Brunson.

Zootopia 2 is officially coming to theatres on November 26th, and we can’t wait for it. It feels like it’s been so long since we got to explore the characters and the world of Zootopia. We’re going to keep an eye out for news on the movie as we get closer to its release. Maybe a new trailer soon (fingers crossed)!
