We have a huge update on a train route that would connect the Orlando International Airport to Disney World and Universal.

We think it would be amazing to be able to hop on a train after you land at the Orlando International Airport to make your way to Disney World. No more having to worry about booking a bus or getting an Uber/Lyft ride.
According to ClickOrlando, Universal Orlando announced this week that it would put $2 million towards the cost of a study needed to make this route a reality. The study is a crucial step to bringing a SunRail line from the Orlando International Airport to the theme parks.

In order to take the next steps, the Central Florida Commuter Rail Commission is seeking about $6 million for the project development and environmental study (PD&E). The study would be the first step before they can attempt to get federal of state funding to build the route.

The route would connect SunRail to the Orlando International Airport and building an east-west line. The route has planned stations at the Orange County Convention Center and eventually Disney Springs. The route is still years away from being a reality, but completing this study is the first step.

In addition to Universal Orlando’s commitment of $2 million, the Florida Department of Transportation is also contributing $2 million. Seminole County and the City of Orlando have each committed $500,000 to the study. Osceola County is also considering a $500,000 contribution. Orange County will be considering the issue on March 25th.

The study will be a two-year study that will cover things such as projected ridership numbers, maintenance and operational costs, environmental impact, potential station locations, and track alignments. While the study is only expected to cost $6 million, the full project is estimated to cost around $4.4 billion.

We are definitely excited about having additional transportation options from the Orlando International Airport. We will continue to follow this developing story, so make sure to stay tuned to AllEars for more!
