However, did you know these activities sometimes close down due to “friends” in the water? We have all the details for you so you aren’t take by surprise!

We stopped by Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort recently and learned that the canoe and kayak activities were temporarily closed. You might wonder, what exactly does it mean that there are “friends” in the water? Well, in this scenario, it means that there are alligators close to the canoe and kayaking path, and it is unsafe for guests to be out exploring.

Canoe and Kayak Rentals

This activity has always been at your own risk; they even give you a laminated warning card to beware of alligators and snakes when renting a kayak or canoe. However, they will sometimes close down the activity when it becomes unsafe for guests to be out and about. The canoeing and kayaking activities remain closed until they can ensure it is safe. In this case, they will safely relocate the area’s alligators.

They want to ensure the safety of both the guests and the alligators. Disney brings in specialized people to safely remove them from the area, and it could take anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days for the activity to reopen.

Sometimes, these activities might be closed without prior warning, so it is always good to be flexible! There is still lots to check out at Fort Wilderness, including Tri Circle D Ranch, where the horses are kept, an Archery Experience, Segway tours, and more.
