According to Deadline, Disney has delayed the film’s theatrical release by a week…and it’s not the first time.

After a big schedule shakeup in 2022, Elio was going to be released on March 1st, 2024. Then in October 2023, Disney pushed the release date back again June 13th, 2025. That date had been steady since then, but now Disney has adjusted it again.

Now, Elio will debut in theaters on June 20th, 2025, moving it back by a week. The June 13th release would have put the movie head-to-head with the new live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie. This adjustment also gives the upcoming Lilo & Stitch live-action adaptation some room to breathe since it comes out on May 23rd.

Elio features an underdog with an active imagination who finds himself beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies. He is mistakenly identified as Earth’s ambassador and starts to form bonds with aliens while on a journey of self-discovery.

It’s been a long time coming, but after seeing the trailer, we know it’s worth the wait. Here’s a look at the latest trailer:

It’s time to adjust your calendar and mark June 20th as the day to see Elio. We don’t know about you, but we’re planning to go on opening night! Stay tuned to AllEars for more Disney movie updates.
