See How Disney World Is Preparing for Hurricane Milton

Hurricane Milton is making landfall today in Florida, forcing the state to take necessary precautions.

Rainy Disney World Day

Disney World is one such place in Florida that needed to make preparations. The hurricane is bringing in high winds and potential flooding, causing Orlando International Airport flight cancelations in addition to Disney World closing early and remaining closed into Thursday, October 10th, 2024. We visited Disney World just before the storm made landfall to check out the preparations around the resort, including some hotel operations modifications.

We visited some Disney World hotels, Magic Kingdom, and Disney Springs and saw plenty of adjustments the Walt Disney World Resort made in preparation for Hurricane Milton.

Disney Springs is ready for Hurricane Milton

Over in Disney Springs, we noticed tons of preparations underway before it closed. During our visit, the Disney-owned stores were still open (they are closed now) while most independently-owned stores and restaurants were closed.

One notable preparation we saw was trash cans being shrink-wrapped together.

Unsurprisingly, we noticed several stores with sandbags to help protect the buildings from the impending storm. Cast Members also prepped Disney Springs by covering important features like kiosks with tarps.

Magic Kingdom closed early today so, naturally, we saw lots of guests at the Transportation and Ticket Center. Here, we were told that guests WITHOUT hotel reservations at Disney World’s three Monorail hotels would NOT be able to get on the Monorail until further notice.

Not the best time to visit the TTC…

In our experience today, it seems likely that you aren’t getting anywhere on property that you aren’t staying.

At the hotels, guests are recommended to hold in. Each Disney World hotel offers meal kits, which include breakfast, lunch, dinner, and kids boxes that range from $5 to $7.

Mobile Order arrival windows filled up fast, especially at Disney World’s value resorts. We saw some pretty outlandish arrival times, so plan accordingly.

Per the official Disney World website, select dining locations will remain open but may have different operating hours than usual. Hours may change without prior notice.

Also effective immediately, Disney World is not enforcing cancellation policies until further notice for dining and other experiences.

A super important note, Disney recommends hotel guests pre-purchase breakfast and lunch for tomorrow, October 10th. The following activities may be available for you to enjoy at your Disney Resort hotel:

  • Free Disney movies in your Resort hotel room
  • Visit the lobby for surprise Character visits and more family fun
  • Check out the arcade for free play starting at 4PM
  • Visit the fitness center during normal operating hours

With everything closing down and transportation throughout the Disney World property stalling, we recommend checking your hotel room’s TV as it has an updated screen with information about Hurricane Milton.

Fortunately, Disney is also providing hotel guests with access to FREE Disney movies in their Resort hotel rooms.

All Disney World theme parks, water parks, and Disney Springs are closed, and it is recommended that hotel guests stay sheltered at their respective resorts. We’ll continue to keep you posted on Hurricane Milton updates so stay tuned right here at AllEars for all the latest news.
