Hurricane Milton is bearing down on Florida. On Tuesday morning, the NHC predicts the storm will “grow in size and remain an extremely dangerous hurricane when it approaches the west coast of Florida on Wednesday.”
Destructive storm surges, hurricane-force winds, and areas of heavy rainfall are expected on the west coast of Florida. In Central Florida and in the Disney World area, the NHC is predicting possible life-threatening hurricane-force winds and heavy rainfall.
As Florida prepares for the arrival of Hurricane Milton, there are closures and operational updates you need to be aware of. Due to Hurricane Milton, the Orlando International Airport (MCO) will cease commercial operations at 8AM ET on Wednesday, October 9th. The airport has not yet announced when it will reopen, but they will continue monitoring Hurricane Milton.
Ahead of its closure tomorrow, the Orlando International Airport is experiencing many cancelations. So far today, October 8th, the Orlando Airport has had 20 flight delays and 115 flight cancelations.
Ahead of the storm, Disney World has announced some closures for hotels including Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, the Copper Creek Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa. These closures begin on Wednesday, October 9th at 11AM.
Disney World has waived fees for those who want to cancel or change their Disney World vacations. Disney World has also restricted reservations for hotels and parks ahead of the storm. Disney has stopped taking hotel reservations for October 8th through October 10th. For Disney Park Passes, the calendar has been “blocked out” for Wednesday, October 9th, so additional park passes can’t be made at this time.
While Disney World and Universal Orlando have not announced any park closures now, they are still monitoring the hurricane and will provide additional operational updates as needed.
