So we get it: When you’re on vacation in Disney World, you want to let your hair down, get a little crazy, and have some fun. Part of the enjoyment of being at Disney is getting to tap into your inner child, after all.
That might come to just doing whatever you want at Disney World hotels, but there are things you should not do. Now, we wouldn’t normally feel the need to say this, but we’ve stayed at a lot of Disney World hotels, and let’s just say that we’ve seen it all. So we’re just going to give you a full list of things you should NOT do in Disney World hotels in case some clarification is needed.
Okay, so let’s look at the things you should never do in your Disney World hotel.
Leave the room a mess
Yes, you are on vacation, so you might get a little slack in wanting to tidy up and keep your room clean, but leaving your room a complete mess for housekeeping is just really rude. It doesn’t take a lot of time just to throw your trash away and keep things to a minimal level of tidy.
Also, if you make a mess or spill something on the floor or accidentally make a mess elsewhere, at least try and clean it up. It’s just good manners.
Pool hop where it’s not allowed
You should never try to pool hop to a pool at a hotel where you’re not staying unless explicitly told that you’re allowed to (and this usually only happens if your hotel’s pool is closed or if a pool is shared between resorts like Stormalong Bay). This is why you’ll need a Key Card or MagicBand to tap into your resort’s pools.
This is to prevent pools from getting overcrowded. If you want to swim in a certain pool in Disney World, consider booking a room at that hotel.
Hang things on your balcony
We know it’s tempting to hang your wet clothes or bathing suits on your hotel balcony, but what if a wind gust comes up and blows them away? That’s no fun, is it? Just hang those up in the bathroom.
However, you shouldn’t hang ANYTHING on your balcony because it could end up being a hazard if it falls. Also, if something falls, you may be tempted to lean over your balcony, which could put you in danger.
Walk around barefoot
Okay, we’ve seen people do this and it’s appalling. Do not walk around barefoot outside your hotel room. Not only could you step on something and hurt yourself, but it’s just kind of gross because a lot of human and animal feet have also walked around outside leaving who knows what kind of germs and bacteria behind.
We don’t even walk around barefoot in our hotel room and highly recommend bringing slippers if you don’t want to wear shoes all the time.
Order pizza from flyers left under your door
You may not be aware of it, but there’s a scam where scammers leave flyers underneath your hotel room door that look like they’re selling pizza. Whatever you do, don’t try to order pizza with those. They will scam you out of your hard-earned money.
If you want pizza, you can order it directly from your hotel’s quick service location or you can go through an app like Door Dash or a pizza chain you’re already familiar with. If you’ve got time, consider reporting the scam flyer to a Cast Member while you’re at it.
Peer into other people’s windows
Okay, maybe Taylor Swift wrote a song about it, but it’s really not okay to “look in people’s windows” when you’re staying at a hotel. Yes, you might find yourself walking by someone’s window and feel tempted, but just don’t.
Also, we would highly recommend that you keep your curtains shut to keep other people from peering into your windows, too.
Smoke in your room
In case you didn’t know, Disney World hotel rooms are all non-smoking, so whatever you do, don’t smoke in your room. If you do, you could end up paying a hefty fine. This also goes for your hotel balcony or other outdoor areas that aren’t specified as smoking locations.
Each hotel has its own outdoor designated smoking areas, so you’ll need to find out where those are if you’re a smoker.
Ignore Cast Members when told you can’t have drinks in the pool
If you’re having a drink at the hotel pool bar and you try to take that drink INTO the pool, you’re probably going to get instructed by a Cast Member that you shouldn’t do that. Please listen to Cast Members when they ask you not to do something.
In general, it’s always a good idea to listen to Cast Members. They are there to enforce Disney’s policies, as well as make sure everyone is having a happy and safe time at the hotel.
So in case you aren’t aware of these general rules and other things, now you are. We’ll do our best to keep you informed so check back with AllEars again soon for more.
