Being a Disney World fan isn’t always easy — especially when it comes to getting your hopes up all thanks to a huge announcement that never ended up going anywhere.
We’ve seen it happen with park expansions involving potential new rides and restaurants, and even entire re-themed areas never really coming to fruition. It even happened after it was announced that a brand-new hotel would be coming to Disney World — except a mysterious new filing is fueling speculation that it may not be lights out for this project after all.
A mysterious new filing by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (formerly known as Reedy Creek) is fueling speculation that a new hotel may be on the way to Disney World. Or, maybe it’s not an entirely new hotel after all.
In the filing, which refers to a “Project S,” it appears the CFTOD is considering entering into a Master Services Agreement that would allow the installation of new electrical transformers by Chen Moore and Associates.
The description listed in the document reads, “The purpose of this project is to provide a new transformer service yard, transformer loop, and SCADA monitoring cabinets for a new resort.”
But, Disney World also recently filed a permit for a lengthy hotel refurbishment at Wilderness Lodge, which is only adding to the speculation that Reflections — a Disney Lakeside Lodge may not be totally scrapped after all.
A new permit has been filed for “site and facility improvements” with Balfour Beatty listed as the contractor. Specifically, the area near the Copper Creek Villas and Cascade Cabins, which is where Reflections was originally supposed to go.
Disney first announced Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge back in 2018. The resort would sit on Bay Lake between Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground on the land that used to be River Country.
It was supposed to be a deluxe resort with more than 900 rooms, including a variety of Disney Vacation Club villas. It was also announced that the resort would have A Princess and the Frog-themed restaurant on site. Disney even released concept art of the restaurant — and then, POOF! We essentially never heard about it again.
Of course, Disney hasn’t announced anything about this potential project as of now, but we’re still hopeful that something will eventually be coming to this area soon.
What’s also interesting, though, is that this isn’t the first “Project S” we’ve seen from Disney. Back when Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind was being built at EPCOT, we spotted a permit that matched the address of the ride’s location also labeled Project S. So, it’s possible this is just a blanket term Disney — or in this case the CFTOD — uses to keep things under wraps.
In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for any potential clues that could lead us to more updates about this mystery project. Don’t forget to stay tuned to AllEars for the latest Disney World news and more!
