CARAMEL CATASTROPHE: An Iconic Disney World Snack Has Gone MISSING

One of Disney World’s most popular snacks is currently unavailable!

It goes without saying that enjoying delicious snacks, sweets, and treats are some of the best parts of a trip to Walt Disney World. With so many yummy variety options, there’s something for every palate somewhere on the resort’s near-30 acres. However, we recently learned that one of Disney’s most beloved snack offerings is seemingly on the shelf for the moment.

During a recent visit to the Contemporary Resort, we noticed that there were no caramel apples featured in the snack cases.

When we questioned a Cast Member, we were told that due to “quality issues”, all of the caramel apples had to be pulled from the cases and it would be 10 to 15 days before they returned.

As we pressed further, we learned that the issue apparently had to do with the caramel supply.

The Cast Member was unsure if pulling the caramel apples off the shelves was affecting Karamell-Kuche at EPCOT’s Germany Pavilion, which as you likely know is home to a litany of Werther’s caramel desserts including candies, caramel butter bars, and caramel popcorn.

Caramel apples have been a staple of amusement parks — and later theme parks — since their creation in the early 20th century. Hard candy-coated apples were first sold as early as 1908, but it wasn’t until 1936 that Hunter’s Candy of Moscow, Idaho began selling the caramel-coated variety.

The treat has been part of Disney’s parks since Disneyland first opened in 1955, and is sold in several varieties and designs across Walt Disney World.
