The 5 WORST Things We’ve Eaten in Disney World This Year

Don’t get us wrong: Disney World has some pretty amazing food.

New Mickey waffles at Sleepy Hollow

You’ve got some incredible signature dining experiences like Victoria & Albert’s, as well as some wonderful restaurants owned by celebrity chefs. However, sometimes, the Disney food just doesn’t hit us right, and we stumble upon a Disney World food fail. So let’s take a look at the food fails we’ve discovered so far this year.

Yes, we’ve eaten some things in Disney World we’re not entirely happy about. Now, we’re telling you about them…again.

New Sleepy Hollow Waffles

Disney World SHOCKED us when they changed up the menu at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments in Magic Kingdom. Not only did they get rid of one of our favorite sandwiches, the Sweet-and-Spicy Chicken Waffle Sandwich, but the waffles they use for the snacks have changed. They’re Mickey waffles, and they are subpar to the waffles that were previously served here.

WE WANT REGULAR WAFFLES BACK

Now, we have to say that the new Mickey waffles are okay, but we’re still pretty salty about the change, and the new waffles are just not as good as the previous ones.

Seafood Boil at Coral Reef Restaurant

We often revisit Coral Reef Restaurant in EPCOT to see if it’s as bad as we remember, and most of the time, the answer is a resounding, “yes.” For a seafood restaurant, the seafood here is anything but great. Our last visit included the Seafood Boil which had some shrimp that were chewy (it tasted like frozen shrimp) and mussels and clams that were too salty and chewy.

We will say the andouille sausage included with the meats was actually pretty good, as were the veggies, but the actual seafood was dismal.

The new corn at Harambe Fruit Market

We used to love getting the Grilled Corn on the Cob with African Spices at Harambe Fruit Market in Disney’s Animal  Kingdom. Then Disney changed it. Before, you could order the corn with or without the spices or the butter because it was grilled in front of you. However, the grill is gone and the corn is prepared off-site and kept in warming bags.

The way it USED to be

Does it taste okay? Sure, it’s fine. But we went from freshly grilled corn to corn that’s been pre-prepared and the taste difference is evident.

The Mara Cupcake

We were pretty excited about The Mara Cupcake at The Mara at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. It sounded delicious as a yellow cupcake with a POG (passion fruit, orange, and guava) filling and vanilla and guava buttercream icing. It’s POG, surely we’d like it, right? In the end, though, this was a pretty basic cupcake.

It may look pretty, but it doesn’t taste pretty

The filling didn’t deliver and the texture was a little grainy with an off taste. Yuck. So the most exciting part of the cupcake just didn’t deliver.

Gnocchi Primavera from Pizzafari

“Is this a TV dinner?” is the first thing we had to ask when we ordered the Gnocchi Primavera from Pizzafari. This thing looked like it came straight out of the frozen foods section at the grocery store, after all. In this case, appearances were not deceiving: it was as underwhelming as it looked.

Gnocchi Primavera

The sauce was like a super sweet tomato paste with undercooked chunks of vegetables in it that were a little too chewy. The gnocchi was overcooked and way too soft. Even the cheese on top disappointed us: it was chewy and bland.

So, yes, there are some foods in Disney World that just aren’t that great. But that’s why we’re here — to warn you to stay away from those snacks that aren’t worth your money.
