A BIG event is coming up soon. D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event is happening August 9th through 11th.
So what do we expect from the event? Well, we’ve already seen a sneak peek at exclusive merchandise available there. We’ve also got the event’s full schedule, including the Horizons panel, which will cover Disney Parks and Experiences. This panel is usually when we get NEW park announcements, and let’s just say, Disney fans are expecting BIG things.
One thing we’ve noticed on social media is that a lot of fans are concerned about Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe and how Disney might compete with it. This means they’re expecting Disney to make some huge announcements at the D23 event that will get folks excited about the parks again. So we asked AllEars readers what announcement Disney would need to make to beat the huge news we’ve been getting recently about Epic Universe.
A Fifth Park for Disney World
The answer we saw the most was that you all think Disney is going to have to announce a fifth theme park for Disney World to compete with what Epic Universe has been announcing. Lorie made the case for another park by commenting, “A fifth gate for WDW. Although it would be years before we’d see it open. They need another park to accommodate all the guests that they’re bringing in with all the new DVC resorts.”
Amelia agreed, but doesn’t think that announcement will happen: “Well…. It took them longer to build one single ride than it did Universal to build a whole new park (actually 2 parks as there is one in CA also), so I highly doubt a brand new park will be announced. But that’s what they need. A ride based off of a movie that a majority of their key demographic has never seen is not the way they need to go again.”
Sarah thinks it’s as simple as: “I mean….to beat a new park announcement I’d have to say a new park announcement”
Erin added: “Something other than a new bus wrap. Probably a new park.”
More Details On the Promised Expansions
Disney has promised expansions at both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland, but we have very few details about what either might include. Many of you just want to get some concrete details about those expansions, as well as some kind of timeline of when construction might actually begin on them.
Beth commented, “I would also love to hear that they actually plan on starting the expansions & renovations they’ve been talking about for years...Beyond Thunder Mountain, Dinoland re-theme…let’s get the ball rolling! I would like to be able to experience some of these things in my lifetime .”Â
Becky agreed: “Break ground date on beyond Big Thunder and Dinoland. With plans and permits in hand. It won’t top Epic at this point, but at least it’ll be more than empty promises.”
Jim commented, “Honestly I don’t think they can beat a whole new park. That said I would like solid plans announced for both Tropical Americas and beyond Big Thunder. I really also want at least one new thing for EPCOT.”
Villains Land
We also had a lot of folks commenting about a Villains Land finally being announced, something that always comes up when talking about park expansions. Shari answered, “Villains land, with lots of shows, rides, and character meals/ meet and greets.”
Yes, that sounds pretty amazing to us, too.
Rob agreed, “Announcement of an exclusive Villains Park!”
According to Amanda, “Villains Park. Sure, totally blue sky, but it would capture the imagination of so many aging millennials.”
Less Blue Sky and More Real Plans
One thing we also saw a lot of comments about is that you’d like to see fewer “blue sky” ideas and more concrete plans. Disney has always been really good at offering concepts, but AllEars readers would love to see actual ideas, plans, and dates.
Jared said, “No blue sky concept art and a 5th gate for WDW and Disneyland forward. They have a lot to make up for the past couple of years.”
Allison agreed: “No blue sky, just literal groundbreaking dates on new lands with Tokyo Disneyland-caliber rides. Disney makes billions, so no more Oriental Land Company excuses.”
It seems Disney is going to have to pull out all the stops for Parks and Experiences announcements, but we won’t know for sure what the company has in mind until that panel happens on August 10th. We’ll be keeping you updated on every announcement, so be sure to check back with AllEars for that and more Disney news.
