Disney Charges a Massive Markup for This — 66% of Fans Would ALWAYS Pay for It Anyway

OK, Disney fans. Be honest. Do you cringe when the bill comes at dinner in Disney World? Do you ever find yourself regretting that margarita in EPCOT? Food and drinks are NOT cheap at Disney World, but are you willing to pay the price?

Every once in a while, we like to poll our readers over on Instagram and Facebook to see what true Disney fans have to say about some controversial topics! This time, we’re talking money.

Have you ever tried to drink around the world? If you’re unfamiliar with drinking around the world, it consists of visiting every EPCOT World Showcase pavilion and, well, drinking! It’s a pretty time-consuming process, and it’s not for the faint of heart. We recommend taking lots of breaks for food and water and sharing with a friend.

It’s a POPULAR EPCOT activity!

Here’s the thing about drinking around the world in EPCOT: it’s EXPENSIVE! Most Disney World cocktails cost between $15–$30, and with eleven countries in the World Showcase…well, it adds up. You’re looking at hundreds of dollars spent on drinks alone.

Ready for a drink?

Of course, you don’t have to drink around the world to feel the pain of overspending on drinks. Even a simple visit to a Disney World lounge, for example, can put a big dent in your budget. A Side Car cocktail at the Enchanted Rose Lounge at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, for example, will cost you $23.50.  Ouch.

Specialty drinks are expensive!

So, all this got us thinking: those Disney World cocktails are expensive! Are YOU paying for them despite the price? On one hand, you’re on vacation — you deserve a treat! On the other hand, that’s a big portion of your budget. So, we asked our readers on Instagram! Here’s what they had to say.

La Cava del Tequila

Out of the 1,500+ responses to our poll, a majority of our readers are willing to splurge on drinks. In fact, 1,032 people answered “Yes” when asked, “When on a Disney World vacation, do you buy alcoholic drinks?” Only 539 readers said “No.”

Well, it seems like, despite the price, people are willing to splurge on drinks! Do you agree? Sometimes, the experience is part of the cost, so you might be more willing to buy an overpriced drink if it’s served in a Star Wars bar.

Keep in mind that there’s no getting around those costly cocktails, either. Even if you’re using the Disney Dining Plan (a service that lets you prepay for your meals in exchange for dining credits), specialty cocktails and several types of alcoholic drinks are NOT included.

Drinks are expensive!

If you’re traveling with a group of adults, you may grab drinks at some point during your trip. Our best advice? Bring a Disney gift card, or make sure you’ve got room in the budget for a drink or two. If your drink comes in a souvenir cup (which is common at places like Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto), you’re looking at a pricey evening.

Souvenir cups cost EXTRA!

  1. Well, these days it’s mocktails for me even though some of the alcoholic drinks look so wonderful. Can’t mix with my ‘scripts though without consequences. Mocktails aren’t cheap either, but cost less than the “real deal”. I’ll splurge for a couple of these on our trip.
