There’s An Abandoned Hotel in Disney World…And We’re Starting to Get Worried

There aren’t many things in Disney World that are abandoned, but they do exist.

River Country, Disney World’s first water park, was left abandoned for many years, and the Wonders of Life pavilion was SUPPOSED to become the PLAY! Pavilion, but that’s been put on hold indefinitely, just to name a few. But there’s one we’re starting to get really worried about — the Star Wars Hotel.

To back up, the Star Wars Hotel, aka the Galactic Starcruiser, was a fully immersive, 2-day, 2-night adventure that brought guests into the Star Wars world. Guests could be as involved in the story as they’d like, or sit back and watch it all unfold — but what you did or didn’t do did affect your personal experience!

However, after about 18 months of operation, Disney closed the doors, and it’s been left to sit ever since.

The Galactic Starcruiser was filled with ‘Star Wars’ missions and experiences

This isn’t the first time a hotel has sat abandoned in Disney World. Originally, where Art of Animation sits was supposed to be a continuation of Pop Century Resort with more decades called Legendary Years, but the idea was scrapped. However, it was turned into Art of Animation, which is now one of the most popular Value Resorts.

Disney has still not announced any plans for this space. This wasn’t just any hotel — everything was fully immersive and really made you feel like you were on a spaceship! To let this theming go to waste would be such a shame.

You could keep up with the game via an Itinerary, similar to what was used on board already!

If you’re looking for ideas Disney, we highly recommend turning it into a daytime experience for an additional cost, sort of like a special tour! Or, you could turn part of it into a lounge area — the opportunities are literally endless. Just don’t let it fully go to waste, please!!

    1. They need to go into it and put right the issues it had. It looked brilliant on the concept artwork, but they failed to follow this through and parts of it looked and felt like a 1970’s sci set, plastically feeling and almost dated at that.
Then reopen it as the same level as wilderness lodge. With the reduction in price it would soon fill, but only if the imagineers got in their and brought it up to standard as per the way the sold the concept.

  1. They already invested. Why not just turn it into a moderate resor? It would be booked solid all the time.

  2. My bet is that if they use it without a certain amount of time going by it’ll cut into their write-off.
