Did you know there’s an exclusive event for things that go “bump-in-the-night” at Disney?

Normally, when we think about Halloween at Disney our minds are usually filled with things like Oogie Boogie Bash, Mickey head pumpkins and decor, and even Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. But if you can make the exclusive event, there’s a secret experience to find that you can’t get anywhere else at Disney for a select few.
It’s no secret that Halloween at Disneyland can be a spooky good time but there’s one limited experience that is! Cast Members wandering the wooded area of Grizzly Peak at Disney California Adventure get a little more frightful fun one fateful night of the year.

Each October, after the park’s day has long closed, an extremely dedicated volunteer team creates a scare maze with twists at every turn exclusively for cast members to enjoy. If you’re wondering where you’ll find this experience, it’s held as part of the “Grizzly Peak Halloween Carnival” in the heart of Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. This also aligns with a beloved cast recognition event filled with food and late-night fun.

This year kicks off its 13th-year tradition of scaring fellow Cast Members. “This is an event just for cast members. It’s something that’s made specifically for us, to show us that we’re appreciated,” said first-time haunter (and attractions cast member), Thanasi Halfhill. He went on to detail how he stumbled across the opportunity to attend “Scare School,” which is part of the training and preparation for the one-night event created by the carnival’s show directors.

The creative geniuses behind this spine-tingling experience are Forrest Orta, an entertainment host, attractions host Anthony Olivares, and former cast member Ross Woods. “Every cast member deserves to be celebrated for all the hard work they put in day in and day out,” says Forrest. “I’m a haunter, and this has been one of the best ways for me to demonstrate that.”

The Grizzly Peak Halloween Carnival has quickly evolved into an experience that generates excitement, anticipation, creativity, and camaraderie from its imaginative and dedicated volunteers. The event’s reputation has been built on positive feedback from attendees, both returning and new—and this year’s edition didn’t disappoint. However, Forrest looks forward to expanding on the cutting-edge technology, special effects, and fear factor in the coming years saying, “I know we can plus everything, just as Imagineering does.”
