Disney has many theatrical releases planned for the rest of 2023.

Haunted Mansion is the next new release, coming out on July 28th, and Elemental, the newest Indiana Jones film, and The Little Mermaid have also been released in theaters. However, it seems the remainder of Disney’s 2023 theatrical releases could be in jeopardy of being pushed back.
According to Bloomberg, Disney is currently beginning talks to push back the release dates for films such as Poor Things, Next Goal Wins, Wish, and Magazine Dreams. All of these films are currently set for release in 2023, but if they get pushed back, 2024 could be the earliest we see them.

CBR is also reporting that while Disney hasn’t confirmed anything, it’s possible that the Captain Marvel sequel film, currently set to release in November, may get pushed back as well.

So why are these films potentially getting delayed? Well, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes prohibit their members from attending their film premieres or promoting the film on social media, as any company under the AMPTP (aka, almost all the big studios and streaming services) is called a “struck company” during this strike.
Promoting these films would be considered “crossing the picket line,” which is a big NOPE for the WGA and SAG, and many other film professionals, such as directors, cinematographers, set designers, and more, choose not to promote or attend out of solidarity.

This leaves the premieres for these upcoming films looking relatively empty, and many companies, like Disney, don’t want that. So by pushing back the release date, the premieres will be pushed back to when the strikes hopefully aren’t happening and the cast and crew can attend to support the film.

Disney hasn’t confirmed that any of these films, or others will be pushed back, so be sure to stay tuned to AllEars — we’ll keep you updated on if/when they do.

Then maybe they could put back on Disney+ some of the dumped shows like the Willow series. I enjoyed it and missed watching the last episode because the pull time was earlier in the day than I expected.
