A NEW Minion Attraction is Coming to Universal Orlando

Some BIG changes are happening over at Universal Orlando!

And no, we’re not talking about the new theme park, Universal’s Epic Universe (although we’re SUPER pumped about that!). We’re talking about something that has been happening right under everyone’s noses inside Universal Studios Florida — a brand-new Minion attraction!

Back in January of 2022, Shrek 4-D closed permanently in Universal Studios. The area was pretty quickly covered up with construction walls…construction walls decorated with Minions from Despicable Me!

We’ve wondered for months what would come to this new spot, but now Universal Orlando has announced what comes next — Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast! Universal says that the “interactive, blaster game experience will invite guests to put their villainous skills to the test as they compete against each other in a bid to join the ranks of the franchise’s most infamous supervillains.”

The attraction will combine innovative screen technology, gaming interactivity, and elaborate physical sets to “create a one-of-a-kind, game-based adventure where guests encounter immersive environments, nefarious villains and tons of mischievous Minions from Illumination’s films in a whole new way.” The attraction will transport guests to Villain-Con, the biggest criminal convention on the planet. There, you’ll take part in a competition to see if you can join The Vicious 6, a group of supervillains from Minions: The Rise of Gru.

To test out your skills, you’ll grab an interactive blaster and step onto a motion-based pathway. The goal will be to cause as much destruction as possible as you blast through various items to earn points.

Villain-Con Minion Blast will open in the summer of 2023 at Universal Studios Florida. It will be part of the new Minion Land on Illumination Ave, where you’ll find Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, a new Minion Café, and “other surprises inspired by popular characters from Illumination’s blockbuster franchises.”
