James Gunn and Peter Safran Will Lead Newly Formed DC Studios

A secret Star Wars film was just announced to be in the works, Abigail Disney closed her production company earlier this month, and it’s been reported that major theatrical releases are down 49% since 2019. And if you’re a fan of DC films, there’s been some MAJOR news.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, filmmaker James Gunn and producer Peter Safran have been tapped to become co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios, a newly formed Warner Brothers division that will replace DC Films.

This decision marks the end of a months-long search by Warner Brothers Discovery CEO, David Zaslav, for a replacement for DC Films boss Walter Hamada. Gunn and Safran will report to Zaslav as they take on these challenging roles.

It’s reported that Gunn will focus on the creative side and Safran the business and production aspects. Their deal will run for 4 years, and Gunn’s deal is exclusive to DC, but both are expected to continue to direct and produce projects respectively as well.
