Although we’ve had a LOT of huge Marvel news recently, we’ve gotten some pretty big news over on other movie universe fronts, too.
The Joker sequel is underway, and Joaquin Phoenix will be reprising his Oscar-winning role as the title character in that film. But the big news is who will be joining him, and now we know that answer!
There have been a number of rumors pointing to Lady Gaga’s involvement with the movie for quite some time, reportedly with her taking on the role of Harley Quinn. Back in June, Variety reported that Gaga was in “early talks” to play the role. But now it looks like we’ve got confirmation that she’ll at least be IN the film.
Lady Gaga recently took to social media to confirm her involvement in Joker 2 by posting a teaser for the movie on Twitter.
Joker: Folie à Deux

The sequel to Joker is titled Joker: Folie à Deux and will release on October 4th, 2024. Unlike the first film, Variety notes that the upcoming movie is set to be a musical, presumably about the relationship between Joker and Harley Quinn. But note, Lady Gaga has NOT confirmed that she’ll be playing the role of Harley Quinn. So far we just know that she’ll be in the film.
Harley Quinn has been portrayed often in DC Comics, has her own animated series on HBO Max, and has been portrayed in the Suicide Squad films (played in those films by Margot Robbie). She’s formerly Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a psychiatrist who falls in love with the Joker and then follows him into a life of crime.
Lady Gaga is no stranger to acting and singing in movies: she received Oscar nominations for her work in 2018’s A Star Is Born.
More announcements about Joker: Folie à Deux are expected soon, so stay tuned for more!
