9 BIG Changes in EPCOT and Other Disney World Construction Updates

New coasters, more restaurants, entire park transformations, there’s just SO much we’re excited about in Disney World.

Cinderella Castle

Recently, we got a big glimpse into the future of the Disney parks at the D23 Expo, where Disney shared opening timelines and concept art for several big projects happening currently. And after that weekend, the anticipation has been so high that we just HAD to go take a look at the construction progress for ourselves. Here’s a glimpse at all the construction updates happening in Disney World!

Magic Kingdom

At the TRON construction site in Magic Kingdom, things are moving along at a great pace! We’ve noticed new changes every week recently, and this week, it seems that more of the concrete has been poured for the path leading up to the ride. We’re excited to see the landscaping come together outside the building!

Down off of Main Street, U.S.A., Center Street is still getting its refurbishment. Progress on this project has been fairly slow, as it seems not much has changed here in a little while.

Bricks are being re-laid in the middle of the street, but we’ve got a ways to go before the construction is completed.

EPCOT

Moving on to EPCOT, there are quite a few projects to check out over here. Landscaping has begun in the area next to Guest Relations, and it looks like we may get this shortcut path opened back up in the future. We can’t wait! (It’ll make walking to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind much easier.)

Construction by Guest Relations

In the middle of the park, progress has continued with Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana. More of the rockwork has been painted, and we’ve noticed an increase in scaffolding surrounding the elements of the attraction. There were big construction crews onsite working this week!

The rest of the area is also under construction and making progress, including the future home of CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza. We noticed that concrete has been poured for the ground in this area and a handrail has been installed. On the side closest to Creations Shop, lots of dirt is being moved in preparation for the next phase.

EPCOT transformation construction

In World Showcase, construction has FINALLY been completed inside Mitsukoshi Department Store in the Japan Pavilion. We’ve been watching tarps get moved around and cover various parts of this store for months, and now the entirety of the shop is open once again. Yay!

No more walls or tarps!

And in an unexpected update, we spotted construction crews working on the outside of the Wonders of Life building this week! This spot is going to be home to the PLAY! Pavilion, a project that Disney hasn’t mentioned much recently, so we’re excited to get even a small update.

Hopefully Disney will mention something about this project in the near future — will it be opening with the rest of the transformation? We’ll have to wait and see!

Hollywood Studios

Over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we’ve got some changes at Roundup Rodeo BBQ. Scaffolding is up on the outside of the building, and some areas are covered with tan cloth. From further away, we could also see that the awning in front of the restaurant’s entrance is taking shape. We’re excited for this spot to open in the next few months!

Nearby in the Toy Story Mania queue, there are still construction walls up on the side by Woody’s Lunch Box. It seems that Disney is working on making some additions next to the quick service spot. We’re interested to see what happens!

Those are all the big construction updates we have for you this week! We’ll be watching for more changes in the parks and resorts in the coming weeks, so stay tuned to AllEars for more.

And if you’re wondering when you can expect to check out these attractions, the EPCOT transformation should be complete in late 2023. The TRON coaster will be coming a little sooner, with an opening date of spring 2023. And Roundup Rodeo BBQ is set to open before the end of this year. So exciting!
