NEWS: Josh Duhamel to Replace Emilio Estevez as Lead in Disney's 'Mighty Ducks' Series

You probably already know about the Disney+ series The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, which premiered in March 2021 with actor Emilio Estevez. Estevez will not be returning for season two, but we just found out who will be joining the cast instead and we’ve got all the details below!

Disney+ has put out a ton of content since the streaming service was first introduced. The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers follows the same team from the original movie, only they’re no longer the underdogs — they’re a super competitive hockey team!

Emilio Estevez had reprised his role of Gordon Bombay in the first season of the Disney+ series, but Disney had made the decision not to pick him up for season two. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The studio had asked that all actors and those in Zone A on the series comply with a mandate to be vaccinated for COVID. While the actor and his reps declined to provide guarantees that he would comply, the studio opted to not pick up his contract for season two and continue the story without his beloved coach, Gordon Bombay.” Estevez has attributed his leaving the show to creative differences.

To replace Emilio Estevez as the male lead of the series, Disney has brought on Josh Duhamel to join the cast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Duhamel will be playing Gavin Cole, former pro hockey player turned coach. He is the leader of the summer hockey institute where the season takes place.
