Disney loves a good live-action remake! Whether it’s The Lion King, the Jungle Book, or Beauty and the Beast, you can bet at some point, Disney will make a live-action remake of an animated classic.
Today, we got more news about the upcoming The Little Mermaid remake!
The Hollywood Reporter said today that Disney will release their remake of The Little Mermaid on May 29th, 2023, which is Memorial Day! Not much is known about the remake, besides a few details about the cast and the release date.
The film will star Halle Bailey, Javier Bardem, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina, Daveed Diggs, and Melissa McCarthy! Halle Bailey has previously worked with Disney on Freeform’s Grownish series.
Awkwafina was recently in the new Marvel film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings which broke records for Labor Day weekend and helped IMAX break records.
Melissa McCarthy’s version of Ursula will reportedly have a different origin story than the animated version of the character, adding another layer to the classic story!
