And, the newest Marvel film in theaters is about to make even MORE waves over the coming days!

The Hollywood Reporter has noted that Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is expected to earn $75 to $85 million over Labor Day Weekend. So far, the film has proven itself to be one of the biggest domestic openings during the pandemic. It will also smash the Labor Day Weekend record held by Halloween (2007) that earned $30.6 million over the four-day holiday.

Shang-Chi grossed $29.6 million on Friday at 4,300 theaters and has made $23.4 million internationally. The three-day box office revenue is expected to sit at $60 million, just behind Black Widow‘s three-day numbers at $80.3 million. Along with its favorable earnings, Marvel’s latest superhero film has received amazing reviews so far.

Unlike Black Widow (which is the reason behind Scarlett Johansson’s current lawsuit), Shang-Chi will have an exclusive 45-day release in theaters. Disney CEO Bob Chapek said that this would be the studio’s release strategy from now on, making theater owners want to do what they can to help the film succeed.

Rolando Rodriguez, chairman of the National Association of Theatre Owners, said that theaters should be all-in and “Call it an ask from your chairman of NATO. This is important to all of us. It’s going to be a great showing from us, to our fantastic friends at the Walt Disney Company…to show them the importance of theatrical exhibition.”
