It’s no secret that Disney World keeps changing its hotel rooms.
From the value resort refurbishments to updates at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, and major room rethemes at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Contemporary Resort; there has been a lot of work put into the hotel rooms recently. So, why all the change?
This is why Disney World keeps CHANGING hotel rooms!
Space
The first reason is for space! Some of the Disney World hotels are almost 50 years old at this point and the original furniture and room layout might be bulkier than it could be with modern style choices.
We’ve seen increased usability and wider walkways in many of the refurbished rooms — especially those in small value resorts. Just consider the Murphy beds that have been added to some value resorts!
Function
Changes to the rooms also help to increase function for guests. Renovated rooms have more storage with added under-bed space and more efficient closets and drawers.
We’ve also spotted better shower heads that typically fall into the “waterfall” category. These help to make those hotel room showers feel just a little fancier, even in cheaper rooms.
The rooms also tend to have more mirrors and more light to help increase the functionality for any party that might be staying there!
Technology Updates
Something you’ll certainly notice when you stay in a renovated room versus an older room is that the updated ones have PLENTY of outlets. Most of the furniture even has standard outlets and USB ports built-in!
When many of these hotels were built, guests didn’t carry multiple items that needed charging. Some of the hotels were even built well before cell phones! These renovations help the rooms adjust to the needs of modern guests.
Cleaner Look
And finally, these renovations tend to give the rooms a cleaner look. The old design styles often meant carpeting and colorful sheet sets which now can come off as feeling less clean to guests.
With white sheets and laminate flooring, it’s more apparent when the rooms are clean and guests can have more peace of mind about that. Plus, the updated showers have a clean and modern design that helps with this perception.
Do you prefer the old rooms or the renovated rooms? Tell us in the comments!
Yeah these updates are much needed!!! I can’t wait to see them!!! Hopefully they will make everything feel more fresh and cool!!!!😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
I prefer more Disney magic and less character kitschiness, especially in deluxe and moderate resorts. It seems Disney has gone way overboard with the use of characters.
Agreed. A subtle character or film nod here and there are fun and welcome, however, the IP overload currently happening seems to bring the feeling of “cheap” and “cheesy” back despite the nice furniture, linen, aesthetic upgrades. The Contemporary has gone waaaay too far with the Incredibles and that is truly a shame.
I agree that the updates at the Poly and Contemporary have gone too far and cheapened the feel of those rooms. I don’t mind characters integrated in the resorts by any means but I don’t think they needed to be brought into the rooms themselves. Updates are good, this is not in my opinion.
And on the flip side – Disney Magic to me IS being immersed in its characters. We will gladly pay deluxe prices for deluxe themes. The problem for us is that they’re basically making the rooms little Apple Stores with beds and only giving the barest minimum of Disneyfication. If I wanted to stay at a snooty opulent hotel, well there’s places for that. I want to stay in Disney. Just because I can afford to stay somewhere outside of Pop! doesn’t mean I want boring generic “classy, crisp, clean” aesthetic (unless they’ve themed a room to be Wall*E’s Axiom. Then I’m in.)
