While we’ve been chilling at home watching Disney+, many of the films slated for release soon have seen some major changes.

Disney has shifted its release strategy around in the last year with the closures as well as decreased attendance at movie theaters. In the last twelve months, Disney has switched the debut of films like Mulan, Soul, and Raya and the Last Dragon over to either Disney+ exclusively or a hybrid theatrical/Disney+  release. It now looks like another major movie we’ve been waiting to hear about will also be premiering on the streaming service soon.

We just learned from Variety that Disney has DELAYED Black Widow’s release date once again from May 7th to July 9th, 2021. It appears that this delay could be the final one, because in addition, Disney has announced that Black Widow will be simultaneously released  on Disney+ via Premier Access as well as in theaters. Black Widow will cost $30 on Premier Access.

In addition, Marvel’s other upcoming film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be delayed as well. The film was originally scheduled to come out in July and will now be released on September 3rd. As of this writing, Shang-Chi is expected to have a traditional theatrical release, according to Variety.

These announcements comes shortly after Disney CEO Bob Chapek shared that the decision on how to handle Black Widow’s release will be “last minute.” Black Widow now joins a series of major releases from Disney to be simultaneously released in U.S. theaters as well as on Disney+ same day, which includes Raya and the Last Dragon in early March.

Black Widow will also be another film Disney will release via Premier Access on the streaming service. Mulan and Raya and the Last Dragon were also released on Disney+ through Premier Access, which requires an additional fee to watch the film on top of a member’s monthly subscription fee. Soul was released on Disney+ Christmas Day with no additional cost.
