Pixar's 'Onward' and 'Soul' Are Officially Eligible for the 2021 Oscars!

It’s been a curious year for cinema, that’s for sure.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, movie studios (including Disney and Pixar!) postponed the releases of their films numerous times and debuted big releases on streaming services.

Because of the unusual nature of 2020, the 93rd Academy Awards (aka, the Oscars) have been postponed until April 25. The timeline for films have also been altered. Any movie released between January 1st, 2020, and February 28th, 2021, is eligible for this year’s Oscars.

Movies that debuted on streaming services, like Disney’s Mulan and Pixar’s Soul are also eligible.

According to Deadline, for the 2021 Oscars, 27 animated features made the cut for consideration in the Animated Feature category, including two Pixar movies, Soul and Onward!

Other eligible non-Pixar animated films include (but are not limited to): The Croods: A New Age, Demon Slayer: The Movie: Mugen Train, Dreambuilders, Over the Moon, Scoob!, A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run, Trolls World Tour, The Willoughbys, Wolfwalkers, and more. But, Soul or Onward have a pretty good chance of taking home the Oscar. Thirteen of the 19 animated feature awards ever given out have gone to either Disney or Pixar. Last year, the Oscar went to Toy Story 4.

The Oscars are set to take place on April 25th, and nominations will be announced on March 15th. When those announcements come, we’ll be sure to let you know ALL of Disney and Pixar’s nominations!
