During Disney Investor Day, we learned about the new, upcoming Disney film, Encanto!
Encanto will be Disney’s 60th Animated Feature Film and its music will be written by Lin-Manuel Miranda who is known for his work on Moana and Hamilton. In a recent interview with io9, Miranda shared a lot of exciting details about the upcoming film!
Encanto will feature a magical family living in a magical home in Colombia. Miranda shares that what sets this film apart from Disney’s previous works is that its storyline will follow an entire intergenerational family rather than just one or two main characters.
Miranda recognizes that although Disney’s films are family-friendly, it’s not entirely common that the movie is solely focused on the whole family. Rather than focusing on one hero’s journey, Encanto maintains a familial perspective throughout. Additionally, Miranda shares that the musical elements of the film add a lot of fun layers to it.
The film has been in the works for three years and is expected to be released in theaters on November 24, 2021. Alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda are creators Charise Castro Smith, Byron Howard, and Jared Bush. We’re looking forward to this film and will definitely share more updates in the future so be sure to check back with us!
