46th Annual Annie Awards Honor Outstanding Animation Achievements

Last weekend, the 46th annual Annie Award ceremony was once again held at UCLA. Started in 1972 by voice-over legend June Foray, the Annie awards are presented by ASIFA-Hollywood (“Association Internationale du Film d’Animation”) and honor outstanding achievements in animation.

A number of Disney and Pixar projects earned several accolades, including Mary Poppins Returns, the Incredibles 2, and Mickey Mouse Cartoons.

Also presented were the Winsor McCay awards for career contributions to the art of animation to recipients animator/director Frank Braxton (posthumously,) [The Bullwinkle Show, Mr. Magoo, Alvin and the Chipmunks,] animator/art and production designer Ralph Eggleston [Toy Story, Wall-E, Incredibles 2,] and casting/voice director Andrea Romano [Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers, Pinky and the Brain.]

The June Foray Award, for significant and benevolent contributions to the art and industry of animation, was awarded posthumously to animator Adam Burke [Iron Giant, Incredibles, Incredibles 2] for his many charitable deeds and work establishing the Pixar Children’s Hospital Visit Program.

Among the many animation stars that served as presenters, familiar Disney/Pixar faces included new Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter and Disney Creative Officer Jennifer Lee;  Kathryn Beaumont and Jim Cummings; John Ratzenberger; and Patrick Warburton.

Congratulations to all the recipients and the great art they produced this year!
