Review of Beach Club Resort (Deluxe Resort)

OK folks, Just got back from staying 6 nights at the Beach club and here is the Scoop. I read a lot of the reviews and agree with some and disagree with others. There are a lot of cosmetic issues at the beach club, I mean a lot. The people that wrote about bleached patches of carpet in the corridors are correct as well as the people that wrote about peeling wallpaper, however, we are not very critical of those things. If you are then don't stay here.

I'll start with the pros: 1. The beauty of the resort is amazing, the landscaping is top notch. 2. The proximity to EPCOT can't be beat. 3. The pool is the best any where on property. 4. If you have any questions, the cast members are most helpful. 5. The quick service dining is pretty good but not great.

Now for the cons: 1. As I said above, the cast members are helpful if you have a question, however, they don't go out of their way to speak to you unless you initiate the conversation. 2. The temperature in the room is either too warm or too cool, there is no possible way to get it just right. 3. Mousekeeping- I am not kidding you when I tell you that they did not clean the room one single day while we were there and I'll tell you why. Our families typical room cleaning schedule is to have them clean every other day, so we planned on this again. We would leave the room at about 7 in the morning and get tired of the heat, crowds and walking at about 2 pm and head back to the room and do you know mousekeeping didn't clean the room yet so I figured they could go around me but they never came before 3 pm.

This was the first time I have eaten here. I had the rib dinner and shared this with my DH. We also had an order of onion rings. It was plenty to share and very tasty. The only complaint I had is that the place was so full we couldn't sit near the water. Maybe next time.

Pros:

Good food

We camped at the fort June 2 through the 8. This campground will spoil you. The restrooms are clean and well maintained like you would expect from Disney. We were in the 300 loop with our dog. We enjoyed the dog park and being close to the canals. We startled some deer more than once. We also saw turkey and one small black snake that was on the walk outside Meadows trading post. We have stayed in the cabins several times but haven't camped there since the 70's. If you are looking for a great camping experience you need to try Ft. Wilderness. We will definitely be back.

Wonderful camping experience

We ate here for dinner on a recent stay at Beach Club.
Friendly staff, comfortable seating
Menu limited in choices. Two of us at table ordered steak. Steak was tasty but tough and hard to cut.. We had not been given steak knives so asked for sharper knives. Ten minutes later waiter brought steak knives explaining that he had to go to Yachtsman's Steakhouse to "borrow knives" from them. By that time we were done eating rest of meal. Perhaps the restaurant should invest in new utensils!

Pros:

Convenient location Yacht & Beach Club

Cons:

Limited menu

Review of Everything POP! Lunch/Dinner

Was here the week of June 2-9. Additional comments are in a resort review.

There are some really good dishes to be had here -- the pork loin/spaetzel/cabbage combination, the sesame chicken, the build your own salad with chicken, tie-dye cheesecake, chocolate cake, ultimate brownie, and omelets are great.

The corned beef hash was a little odd -- it seemed more like poached eggs on top of fajita meat and peppers -- but it was good. The nachos appear to be made with house-made potato chips which is just NOT RIGHT. Fish and chips, rotisserie chicken and hamburgers were so-so. The bounty platter breakfast is ruined by the chicken sausage (worse than soy sausage per husband). Pasta dishes were passable as well per other members of our party.

The pepperoni French bread pizza was soggy, bland and yucky. Breadsticks were hard and had no flavor. Also, at these prices, get some leaf lettuce and ditch the iceberg for sandwiches. For two days in a row, something was amiss with the iced tea -- it was very watery. One whole drink station was shuttered the whole time and was needed.

As I mentioned in my resort review, there was confusion over menu changes and the most trouble occurred at the burger station. It happened to me three times and to others while I was there. One time, I received an ice cold hamburger. Another time, I waited 15 minutes for a salmon burger only to have them try to give me a veggie burger. I went elsewhere when I was informed -- without an apology -- that it would be another long wait. Another time they were so confused that they did not even know what I was ordering so I went elsewhere. My husband ordered fish and chips and they tried to give him the tortilla slivers they place on the Southwest Burger instead of fries.

There were a couple of CMs who caused trouble everywhere they went and I learned to avoid them whenever possible. Clearly the management knew there was a problem with these CMs because they were constantly moving them around and one night one of them was reprimanded right at the station. They questioned everything everyone did, tried to boss people around, did no work, and were generally rude to everyone. They were responsible for my cold burger, my salmon burger fiasco, and tried to ruin my breakfast one day as well.

I think the confusion will get better, but I sincerely hope that these two CMs do not interfere with the other CMs much longer, because everyone else was trying really hard to do their best.

Also, as usual, dining plan confusion ruled the day (Fruit is not a dessert! It's a snack!) and I would love it if they could establish a line that is non-dining plan. People were constantly running back to get something else while they were being checked out. the RFID touch system worked pretty well most of the time... although we saw some wrist band fails.

Pros:

Some great dishes, dancing, nice CMs

Cons:

Not great dishes, confused CMs, weak tea, iceberg lettuce

Ate here the week of June 2-9. We were keeping DD company while her boyfriend waited in line for Space Mountain and decided to give it a try.

I had the lobster roll and chips, and it was quite good and a nice departure from the usual quick service options. Recommended if you like lobster rolls.

Husband had the Beef and Blue Cheese Salad. He was initially dubious at the pinkness of the beef (be prefers beef charred to a crisp). He was hungry, so he gave it a shot and gave it a good grade. He would definitely order it again. The seating is ample and pleasant with a great view of the castle.

Selections, seating, taste

There should not be this much confusion about plopping (bad) meat in a salad shell or beans and rice on a tortilla. Inexplicable.

The "toppings" bar consisted of four items -- if you count salsa (no jalepenos or anything fancy like that!) The same four items are repeated across the "bar" so it looks like more items. We were not the only ones complaining or stupefied by the "toppings" selection.

Also the CM who was standing at the toppings station did not care that they were totally out of forks.

Pros:

Cons:

Odd meat on salad, staff confused, "toppings" sparse

Finally found a decent place to dine in DHS! Husband and daughter had burgers and gave them high marks compared to other burgers on property.

I had a Reuben, which was nice and not at all oily like some Reubens can get (very toasty, but not dry). Our guest enjoyed his chicken pasta as well.

Cherry cokes were refilled promptly. Shakes ordered by daughter and guest were good and quickly delivered.

Would definitely dine here again when visiting DHS.

Pros:

Fun atmosphere, good food, great service

Ate here the week of June 2-9. Husband had Shogun combination and I had the Japanese Curry Udon. This was our second favorite meal of the week (behind Tusker House and ahead of Biergarten). We went between lunch and dinner and had no trouble finding a table inside. Cannot wait to return in the fall and dine here again.

Pros:

Location, seating, atmosphere, selections

Cons:

Can get crowded at lunch (like every other place)

Review of Pop Century Resort (Value Resort)

We stayed at POP for the first time June 2-9, 2013. I was a little nervous since we have stayed at POFQ on our last two trips and because our prior experience with a value was All-Star Movies and I did not like it. POP was a great experience and we would definitely recommend it and stay there again.

The rooms were clean and Mousekeeping was fantastic -- a towel animal every single day. We had two teens with us who were not the best about getting up and getting out of the room in a timely manner and Mousekeeping was very understanding and accommodating! The bathrooms are showing their age a little, so a refurb would be nice.

Aside from one long wait for a Magic Kingdom bus, the bus service was exemplary -- the best I have ever experienced in our four prior trips. I like the queue setup at the POP better than the single shelter at POFQ, so there is no confusion about boarding order. There are many mature trees and garden areas that give POP a lot of charm and add to the "smaller" feel that the resort has, despite its large size. We had a non-preferred location overlooking the lake, and it was still very close to the main building and pools.

Now the food court. I read online -- and heard it live and in person from other guests -- that the food court has been ruined. Having no prior experience with this food court, I can only offer my first-timer's experience. The food was pretty good -- the pork loin/spaetzel/cabbage combination was so good I had it twice. There was a great deal of confusion, especially at the burger station. I had two orders filled incorrectly here as well as receiving an ice cold hamburger. There is no ticket tracking, so you are relying on the CMs to communicate with each other and that was not going very well. There were also two CMs who we observed on different occasions causing trouble for other CMs by questioning their work, arguing, or just standing around watching other people work. The last night we were there, one of these CMs was reprimanded by an upper level CM. I think the confusion over orders will disappear over time, but these two CMs were definitely causing more trouble than necessary. Also only two of the three drink stations were open the whole time we were there and one of the dining areas closed off even though the food court was overflowing. Lots of choices, though, and fun (enjoy the dancing!)

Pros:

Seems smaller than it is, nice grounds, good bus service, great Mousekeeping

Cons:

Food court confusion, food court staff, bathroom refurbs needed
