Review of Surf's Up Mickey and Friends Breakfast

We have attended many character meals at DLR and WDW and this was by far the best we have ever attended, for both food and character interaction. We had the 7 am seating and the characters came around several times. We enjoyed that there were several opportunities for the kids to get up and dance with the characters at different points. The food was delicious. We will definitely be back. A wonderful way to start our trip!

Pros:

Food, character interaction, decor, location

Cons:

Review of Cinderella's Royal Table Lunch

Our group of 8 (5 adults 3 children) had lunch reservations here on Oct. 12th. At our appointed time we were led into a large room to wait for pictures with Cinderella. The magic began the minute she walked into the room and posed for pictures with us. We were then told to go upstairs to the dining room. The entire staff goes out of their way to make everyone feel special. We had a large table near the windows and it was neat to be able to look into Fantasy land below. I wish the menu selection was larger, but we were all pleased with our entrée selection. Most of us had the short rib which we could not say enough good things about, very meaty and tender. Dessert was to die for--love cheesecake. During our meal each princess stopped by our table and took time for pictures and to talk a little. Its amazing how each princess was in true character like you see in their movie. We felt the experience was well worth the price and it may not be something we would do at every visit, we will definitely do it again.

Pros:

view from the castle

Cons:

limited lunch menu

Review of Port Orleans Riverside Resort (Moderate Resort)

First stay at Riverside. October 21-25. It was a lovely resort.
Upon checking into our room we found out that we would not have a refrigerator. When I inquired at the front desk, I was told I should have received a letter notifying us of this. Yet we didn't.
The busses were overcrowded and would arrive infrequently.

We have been visiting Disney regularly for the past 19 years. This was by far our worst experience at a resort. We have stayed at the luxury resorts in the past, I guess you get what you pay for.

Pros:

Nice rooms, good housekeeping, nice landscaping, design

Cons:

Busses, no refrigerators, too spread out

My three boys did enjoy the pizza although they said it was good, not great. The dressing on both the salad that I had and the sandwich my husband had was not good. Both of us felt ill shortly after eating. It may have just been an isolated experience, but we will not go back.

Pros:

Lots of seating. Air-conditioned.

Cons:

Bad dressing on the salad and sandwich.

Review of Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery

Yummy baked goods. My 5 y/o son and I each had a cupcake. He had a Halloween cupcake with a large chocolate bat on it. I had the cotton-top Tamarin cupcake. Both were very good. My 10 y/o son had the elephant ear pastry and my husband had a cherry turnover, both which they said were very good. Good coffee as well. They were out of a few menu items so if you have a favorite, you may want to stop there earlier in the morning.

Pros:

Great baked goods and coffee

Cons:

Were out of some items by mid-morning.

Review of Surfside Lounge

We just used this location as a quick grab and go location in the morning (milk, juice, yogurt), and a place for my husband and son to heat up their lunchtime leftovers for dinner one night. They enjoyed sitting in the lounge, eating, after using the microwave. They got to watch some college football while I was in Disneyland waiting in line for our Fantasmic! seats, so it worked fine for our needs.

Pros:

Convenient for hotel guests, comfy seating

Cons:

Small area, limited menu

Review of Flo's V8 Cafe - Cars Land

We loved Flo's for the most part. We went ahead and sprang for the Lightning container for our son's meal and he of course loved that, as well as the macaroni and the sides (apples?) that came with it. He loved sitting at the table outside, we got to watch DJ's Dance Party, and just soak up the amazing Carsland atmosphere.

My husband really enjoyed the pork with the Coca Cola BBQ sauce. I don't care for pork but tried the sauce with some of his mashed potatoes and it was delicious.

There was nothing on the menu that appealed to me. I thought about getting the kid's turkey sandwich but that seemed a little boring to me. Then I considered the veggie tater bake but it has soy crumbles and I won't do fake meat. I really wanted a milk shake and a pie but I knew if I did that, my 3 year old would refuse any of his own food. So I went across the way and had a Chili Cone Carne and brought it back to eat with them. It wasn't quite enough dinner for me, but it was close and convenient. We'll be back to Flo's I just wish they had a slightly larger menu. A turkey sandwich meal for adults would be great.

Pros:

Decor, food quality and taste

Cons:

Variety-how about adult sandwiches or a burger?

Ice cream was delicious. We love the Downtown Disney location in Orlando and were excited to try the DCA version. I was surprised the ice cream was served in plastic cups and you had to wait for it yourself as opposed to WDW where it is delivered to your table. It was not a problem, just different. Perhaps we reviewed the menu too quickly but I didn't see options other than their fancy, expensive sundaes. That's what we wanted, so it was no problem, but it would have been nice to know what options were for ice cream flavors and toppings if we had wanted to create our own treat.

Pros:

Delicious!

Cons:

Confusing menu

We love Pacific Wharf! We had a great lunch here for a great price. I always get the Shrimp Louie and it didn't disappoint. My son was very excited about his kid's meal ina Mickey Mouse and pluto bag. His macaroni was exactly as expected and came with healthy sides. My husband had the clam chowder and he really enjoyed the soup and munching on the bread bowl. This definitely stays on our "must eat here" list!

Pros:

Delicious salads, great bread, lovely area to dine

Cons:

Portions slightly small

Review of Paradise Pier Hotel

We were very excited for our family's first DLR onsite stay. I was so happy that the room was clean and perfectly maintained upon check in. We loved the Disney touches and beach ball pillows.

There was a snafu at check in where we were told our Fantasmic viewing tickets were included in the paperwork given to me-they weren't, and I spent about 2 hours tracking them down but City Hall at Disneyland was finally able to help me. They turned out to be at PPH front desk the whole time...extremely frustrating.

Every afternoon there was a pool party and the staff was wonderful with our 3 year old son. He was too little to really do or understand most of the games but he was enthusiastic and the activity directors helped him feel included every time.

The Surf's Up breakfast was the best character meal we've ever done, and we've done many.

Loved being able to walk through the Grand Californian Hotel to save time, and so nice not to have to rely on shuttles to get to the parks. We are sold on onsite stays and will definitely be back!

Pros:

Clean, extra magic hours benefit, Surf's Up breakfast, roomy

Cons:

Check in issues, slow elevators
