Review of Wild Africa Trek - Animal Kingdom

My 11-yr-old daughter & I did the Wild Africa Trek on Oct 23, 2013. It was awesome! There were only 10 of us on the tour. Being able to see the animals so closely during the walking portion & going across the rope bridges over the crocs was amazing. Having the chance to really slow down & stop & watch the animals in their habitats was beyond anything my animal-loving daughter hoped to experience. The food we had while sitting in the hut on the savannah, relaxing & watching the animals was delicious---and even my picky eater daughter tried all of the foods, and enjoyed some she was sure she wouldn't like. This experience was worth every penny. I would love a chance to do it again. There is a difference from earlier reviews: they no longer send you a CD of photos---you are given a card at the end of the tour with an access code to a website so you can see & download the photos 24-48 hrs after the tour. The photos the guides took were amazing and a wonderful addition to the photos my daughter & I took. We were able to take our own cameras as they had straps to tether them to the harnesses (everything has to be tethered or it doesn't go with you----they provide lockers for the things you aren't allowed to take on the tour, including cell phones). We were also given metal reusable water bottles with the Wild Africa Trek logo printed on them that were ours to keep after the tour. We also received a pin at the end to commemorate the tour. After the walking portion of our tour, they provided pre-packaged, chilled wet washcloths to help cool off---an added bonus in warm weather, although I would have preferred they be unscented (they were lemon-grass scented) as my daughter was bothered by the aroma. All in all, an awesome tour that I would recommend to everyone, even those who worry about the rope bridges (I was concerned about crossing them, but once I got part way across the first one, I was able to enjoy it and it provided an awesome view of the animals).
Pros:
Time to view animals, information provided by animal experts, food, photos, overall experienceCons:

Our party of 8 dined here for dinner on 11/8/13 prior to MVMCP. We checked in 15 minutes early and were seated at our 5:55 ADR time. I was a little apprehensive to eat here based on some reviews I've read but our server Linda made our experience a very positive one. While the food is not the best on Disney property, her attention offset any misgivings I may have had. She was very attentive and sodas and requests were presented quickly. The food was OK. 6 of our party had the Chicken Parm while I had the New York Strip w/ 1 finicky eater getting pasta w/ butter. One of our party raved about the Pistachio Crème Bruelle dessert. Based on this experience I would eat here again in the future.

I like the magic band and the ease with which we were able to reserve fast pass times. We never had an issue with our reservations not being there. I guess we were lucky.
I do not like the limit of 3 fast passes per day, and only at one theme park, this makes it more difficult for families wanting to park hop.
Pros:
Reserving attractions far in advance as to aviod rushing at rope drop to fast pass machinesCons:
remembering fast pass times 🙂Review of MagicBand

We were issued Magic Bands for our last stay at the Boardwalk hotel Nov. 8-11.
I had customized them on line weeks prior and they were delivered to my house about a month before our trip.
We used the bands to check-in for Magical Express and it was great.
At the hotel the system was down, but we were issued Key to the World cards while we were waiting for our room to be ready and for the system to assign us a room. These cards were not needed as we had purchased our tickets through the "sports" discount - Wine and Dine run, so we had paper cards as well .
We went right to Magic Kingdom from there and had no issues with the band itself.
Pros:
Ease of entering each themepark, ease of payment at vendors and shopsCons:

While easy to use, you can wait a long time and buses can be very overcrowded. Needs to be better coordination of buses going to early opening parks. Waiting for bus at the Beach Club to go to Animal Kingdom on early opening day. Saw 4 Magic Kingdom buses (for a park that wasn't even open yet) come and go. Waited for over 30 minutes for bus. Employee at bus stop logging arriving and leaving times said that if the bus leaving the Yacht Club was full, they would have to bypass the Beach Club and the people at the Beach Club would just have to wait and hope the next bus wasn't full. When the bus finally arrives, they tried to pile everyone on that have been waiting (by the time the bus arrived, there must have been 25-30 people waiting) - bus was packed. Husband, grandson and I had to stand (which I don't mind). Bus driver was going extremely fast and had to slam on brakes for a stop light. Needless to say, everyone was sent flying. Luckily the couple sitting in front of my grandson caught him and kept him from falling. Everyone that was standing was pushed forward creating a very dangerous situation.

We always dine here once or twice on each trip that we make every October. Food is always great and have never had bad service. Only negative is the small waiting area while you are waiting for your assigned table. Always seems to be a big backup for reservations.

Dined here on October 16, 2013. We have dined at this restaurant every year for the past 10-12 years. The new look to this restaurant is great. Menu is not as good as in prior years and if you want to make a substitution for one of the side dishes be prepared to pay extra. Had to pay extra for the Truffle Mac & Cheese - was not very good - had better Mac & Cheese out of a box. Food was not as good as in prior years - Yachtsman Steak House is far superior. Waitress was very good. Have always recommended this restaurant in the past, but I even have doubts that we will dine here next October.

All the food we tasted was excellent. Noticed the visible presence of much more security this year which may have cut down on the excessive drinking and drunk behavior that has occurred in prior years.
