Review of Beach Club Resort (Deluxe Resort)

We stayed here for 3 days as part of our Honeymoon at Disney (Started at the Poly, then BC, then AK Lodge). Let me preface this by saying my immediate family and I have stayed at the Beach Club 3 times prior to this, including concierge level suites, and never had a problem. I could not wait to get to the BC and share the experience with my husband who had never seen it. That quickly ended at check-in. We were received without any of the warmth or welcome we experienced at the other two deluxe resorts on our trip. The gentleman behind the desk did not even acknowledge it was our honeymoon (wearing buttons and on the reservation) and then showed me where our room was to be on the map and kept asking "Is that ok?" which should have let me know something was up to begin with. We walked to the room and then they started testing the fire alarm, so the whole walk was extremely noisy rather than peaceful. When we opened the door to our room the room smelled terrible, like dirty socks! I have never experienced this at the BC, or any other resort, but the smell was so strong that I immediately returned to the front desk and asked politely to be moved ( I have never ever done this before). My room request had also not been granted. I had asked 6 months earlier for a room right on the first floor facing the quiet pool. The reservation attendant on the phone had assured me that this was a fine request for my room category, but when I returned to the desk, the gentleman at the check-in desk at the Beach Club stated that my category (Garden View) did not include rooms right on the quiet pool. I pointed out the request, and he said "Yeah, I see that in the computer…" I asked if I could pay for an upgrade to that level. He said yes and informed me it would be $300 more. I said fine (it was our honeymoon and my husband loves to swim laps!). He then had to call reservations to change the room. Upon hanging up the phone he starts showing me the map and says, ok, so it's on the second floor near the elevator. What?! That is totally the opposite of what I asked for. I then asked for my original request of a room on the quiet pool. He then tells me in a condescending tone "You have to understand…it's Thanksgiving." I told him, I was very Aware, as we were there to celebrate our Thanksgiving AND our Honeymoon. He then told me that our room category originally did not include that, and I said they had verified it by phone. He mentioned that was not his fault, but an error on the part of the reservations person. I really did not like being spoken to like a little kid rather than a grown woman. At one point, he even asked if he could call the room and talk to my husband to talk him into the 2nd floor room! (So bizarre, I said No). Eventually, we did get our room on the quiet pool, but not until it was a total upset for me. While there we enjoyed the quiet pool and Stormalong Bay, which is the biggest selling point for this place, and the nice walk to Epcot. The Check-In experience, however, totally soured my love for the BC. I could not believe I was spoken to that way after being a loyal customer and being on my honeymoon. They also weren't very happy at Check-out either, and didn't even ask about our stay. Beach Club front desk really needs to get it together in terms of customer service. Mousekeeping and the gift shop people were excellent.

Pros:

Great Pool, Easy Walk to Epcot

Cons:

Terrible Check-In Experience, Cold Impersonal Feeling

Review of Animal Kingdom Lodge - Jambo House (Deluxe Resort)

We stayed at the AK Lodge Jambo House for one night to complete our weeklong Honeymoon at Disney (Started at Poly, Next Beach Club, then AK). We were so impressed! Neither of us had ever been to this resort. It was absolutely Amazing! Friendly, warm, super clean and inviting and full of beautiful details in the decor. The lobby was gorgeous, with big overstuffed chairs and couches and the most beautiful Christmas tree I have ever seen. I loved the fire pit in the lobby and the viewing platforms and looking at the amazing African Art throughout the resort. Stayed in Savannah View room on the third floor. Loved the Decor! Mosquito netting and warm earth tones. The animals of course stole the show! Zebras, Giraffes, Ostrich and Wildebeast right outside our window. We loved looking out and sitting on the patio. This is a great resort to stay at if you want to avoid the parks and just have a restful vacation. Only drawbacks were the lighting was dim (easy to bump into something) and it took forever to walk from our room to Mara to grab sandwiches and drinks. But I'm not complaining! It was terrific and we really want to spend more time here!

Pros:

Relaxing, Animals right outside your window

Cons:

Rooms are far from facilities/restaurants, dark interior

Review of 'Ohana Best Friends Character Breakfast

This was our second time having breakfast at Ohana. We ate there on 11/16/14. Our wait time to be seated with an ADR was ridiculous. We had a large party and food was brought out continually. The juice as always was very good. The food itself was good, but this time the characters were not as entertaining. We ended up missing out first fastpass of the day just because of how long it took Stitch to get to the table and because of how long it took to get seated. One other minor thing, I miss getting the family photo that they used to do with the lei. I think taking the lei away took away from the experience. I would recommend eating here though.

Pros:

The juice and breakfast bread

Cons:

Wait time even with ADR

Review of Disney Junior Play 'N Dine at Hollywood & Vine

This was our first time trying breakfast at Hollywood and Vine and it will be a must do on our next trip. We went in only with the expectations of meeting the characters and having breakfast, but the food was outstanding. Everyone should be able to find something at this buffet to eat. I did not have one item that was not excellent. The deep fried cinnamon french toast with chocolate sauce was to die for. I know it was super bad for you, but it tasted wonderful. Similar to a funnel cake with chocolate sauce. Everything we tried was tasty. I would recommend this breakfast to anyone.

Pros:

Food was excellent

Cons:

Review of Biergarten - Lunch/Dinner

This was our first time having dinner at Biergarten and it was very good. We were there 11/14/14. Our wait time to get seated was around a half hour even with ADR. This was the worst part of the dining experience. Our server was friendly. The buffet was good. I really loved the fresh pretzel rolls. They were delicious to dip in the beer cheese soup. The schnitzel was also very good. Dessert choices were okay, but the warm apple strudel was very good. The entertainment was fun and the kids in our party enjoyed dancing. I would definitely eat here again.

Pros:

Atmosphere, food

Cons:

Wait time to be seated, crowded

Review of Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party (Magic Kingdom)

This was our second time attending the VMMCP (11/16) and it was okay. This event is probably the best way to get on the rides in the least amount of time. Last time we came in 2012, we took time to watch the parade and see the snow on Main Street. This time we skipped all of that and did character meet and greets and as many rides as possible. One in my party did get the cocoa and cookies. Cocoa was warm at best and the cookies were so-so. Overall, I would pay again just because of the lines being shorter for attractions. Do not fret if you cannot afford to go or cannot pay the extra $$, you are not missing that much.

Pros:

Shorter lines

Cons:

Price

This was my 2nd time to see the lights and they were just as beautiful as I remembered. This time it was super crowded (11/15) and it was hard to even move. This was the only issue. I would highly recommend seeing the lights to anyone. They really get you into the Christmas Spirit and are beautiful!

Pros:

Seeing all of the beautiful lights

Cons:

The crowds

Review of Caribbean Beach Resort (Moderate Resort)

We stayed at this resort from 11/14/14-11/21/14. Our room was a preferred room located in Martinique. It was not renovated yet, however, it was clean and maid service was good. This was our first time staying at this resort, because Port Orleans was not part of the free dining offer this time. I had read previous posts regarding the size, but assumed others were being picky. I assumed wrong. This resort is huge. We were not far from the bus stop or the food court because of where I requested the room, but things were still not at your fingertips per se. This resort has 8 bus stops, so do not expect to keep or get a seat often. The food court food was okay, but not outstanding. We only ate there once. We did not try Shutters. The gift shop was good and the main pool was beautiful. This resort is nice, it is just too large and did not feel as comfortable as our previous resorts.

Pros:

Great main pool

Cons:

Size, number of bus stops

Review of Bay Lake Tower (Disney Vacation Club)

We booked a studio in BLT for a long weekend when nothing else was available at the Contemporary. We found the room rather small, OK for two people but any more and they'll be tripping over one another. Reminded us of a cruise ship cabin. A queen bed was wedged in tightly next to a sleeper sofa, but we can't imagine more than a couple in the studio. The bathroom arrangement is just weird with the basin and mirror in the kitchen alcove and the toilet and tub in a separate alcove. Kinda like shaving in the kitchen. We had a parking lot view room but we could see the MK and fireworks from our balcony, even on a lower floor. No complaints about the cleanliness. Parking lot was never full. Bit of a hike to the Contemporary for amenities but we expected that.

Pros:

Clean, modern

Cons:

Small
