Pink-Backed Pelican Animal Kingdom
Pelicans are easily identified by the pouch under their bills. Not only is the pouch useful for catching fish, the pelican flaps the pouch to cool off in hot weather.
The pink-backed pelican is native to Africa and Asia. These birds are usually found near vegetation in the water where they can hide and slowly slip up on their prey (mainly fish).
With a wing span of "only" 8 feet, the pink-backed pelican is among the smallest of the eight species of pelicans.
