2 Popular Magic Kingdom Spots Could CLOSE This Summer

When we’re at Magic Kingdom, we love heading to Frontierland for a drink and a snack, followed by a good shopping session. There are so many great options to choose from!

We love heading to Big Al’s to take a look at their cowboy hats and coonskin caps for a trip to the Wild West. But right now, the Disney World app shows that it will close on Monday, May 11th, with no reopening date posted!

In addition, it says that Westward Ho will be closing on June 22nd, with no reopening date. This little log cabin sells snacks and cold drinks, just across from the Prairie Outpost store. If you want to grab frozen lemonade or Bacon Pecan Cinnamon Rolls, run to Frontierland in case they close.

Sometimes, when Disney lists a closure on the calendar but doesn’t announce it, they tend to move the date around. It’s also possible this could be a glitch, considering the lack of an announcement. Still, it gives us a good idea of what to expect if it does close.

Frontierland has seen lots of construction lately, with the upcoming Cars area, Piston Peak National Park. It’s possible that these locations are being rethemed to match the new area. Looking at the concept art, these two spots will be in the top left corner, right along the water. They’ll likely receive a facelift within the next year to fit the national park theme!

In the new Cars land, you’ll enter Piston Peak National Park and zoom around with Cars characters, including Lightning McQueen and Mater, in two new rides. In a rally race ride, you’ll race through mountains and dodge geysers and waterfalls, and enter through the A-frame visitor lodge of Piston Peak National Park. The second ride, a family-friendly one, will have folks queuing up in the ranger lodge, where you’ll meet a new character. Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore is in charge of the park, and he’ll tell you all about it!
