REVIEW: It Might Not Be Fancy, But This Disney Springs Spot Is a HIT

When it comes to getting a sweet treat in Disney World, there are lots of different options out there — especially in Disney Springs!

Regular Cup of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream

Now, when you think of desserts in Disney Springs, you may be thinking of Gideon’s Bakehouse, Summer House on the Lake, or perhaps even the various classic treats you can snag at Goofy’s Candy Co. Sometimes, though, you’re just looking for something super simple and familiar, and what’s better than ice cream? We feel like a lot of people walk right by Häagen-Dazs, but here’s why you shouldn’t!

Background

Häagen-Dazs is a small kiosk located on the West Side of Disney Springs, and a lot of people walk right by it since it doesn’t have a lot of flashy features or theming.

The ice cream brand itself was established in 1960, but opened in Disney Springs on May 19th, 2014. Along with the rest of the resort, it closed for the COVID-19 Pandemic, but began its phased reopening on May 20th, 2020.

Atmosphere

Again, this is a pretty small stand, so lots of people walk right by it without giving it a second look. There isn’t any seating immediately nearby other than community tables, so finding a spot to eat can be a little stressful.

But enough about that, what are we grabbing from this spot?

Food & Drinks

First up, we grabbed a Mini Cup of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream for $6.75 so we could compare it to the Regular Cup of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream for $8.75.

Mini Cup of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream

The ice cream here is creamy and dense at its base, and while it starts melting quickly, making it messier than other treats, we appreciated that that means it’s real ice cream! Both versions of these were packed full of chocolate chips and cookie dough pieces, which we appreciated from both a flavor and texture standpoint, and it’s certainly something we’d get again.

We think the mini size is great for someone who wants a quick treat to continue walking around Disney Springs with, while the Regular size is better for someone who wants to sit down immediately and dive in. The quality of the ice cream didn’t change with the size, so no matter what you feel is best for you, you can count on the fact your ice cream won’t change.

We also grabbed the Dark Cherry Truffle Milkshake for $9.75, and while they were out of whipped cream when we ordered it, we really loved how the tart flavor of the cherry combined with the chocolate.

It didn’t taste overly artificial, which we appreciated, and the consistency here is thinner than other milkshakes, which did make it easier to drink. That does mean it melts faster, though, so keep that in mind!

Magic or Tragic?

This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • You want something quick, familiar, and maybe reminds you of home. While it may seem impossible, you CAN get sick of Mickey treats on your visit, and this is something simple to cleanse your palate.
  • You want something cold, sweet, and easy to eat on the go. These treats are reasonably priced and sized, making them easy to walk around with, or enjoy quickly before you move onto your next activity.
  • You want some classic flavors, rather than experimental ones. However, if you do want ones that are more adventurous, head to Salt & Straw!

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

  • You want some unique options that are only available at Disney World. Whether it’s a Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich, or perhaps another sweet treat that’s special to Disney, if that’s what you’re looking for, this won’t be the spot to head to.
  • You want an immersive, themed experience. This spot is just a kiosk, so there’s really nothing super special going on with the theming here.
  • You want a dessert that won’t melt. Ice cream in general won’t be the best choice for this then, and we recommend trying out some cookies, brownies, or cake slices.

Overall

If you’re looking for classic ice cream at a reasonable price, this is a great spot to stop by, especially if you’re trying to avoid some crowds, as most other unique areas will be more popular.
