REVIEW: We Tried the Food at Disney World’s NEW Restaurant — Bourbon Steak

ALERT! A new restaurant is about to open its doors at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort!

Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina officially opens on July 26th, and we can’t wait to check out all the offerings they have on their menu. However, our chance to try some items on the menu just came a little earlier than expected, and now we get to share our thoughts with you!

Bourbon Steak by Michael Mina is a new modern take on the iconic American steakhouse you know and love. The menu features premium cuts of beef, seafood infused with global flavors, decadent signature desserts, and world-class beverage offerings.

The restaurant

We got invited to a media event to see the grand opening and get a sneak peek at the menu, and we’re here to share our thoughts!

If you want to stop by, the restaurant is soft-opened on July 24th and 25th before its official opening on July 26th. Keep in mind that kinks may still be getting worked out during a soft opening.

There are so many fantastic items on the menu, and a few of the restaurant’s most popular offerings were available for us to taste, starting with Michael Mina’s Tuna Tartare. This is made with quail egg, pine nuts, asian pear, and habanero-sesame oil.

NOTE: The portions shown in the following photos were taste-sized for the media event. Actual menu item portions will be much larger.

The Tuna Tartare

Overall, this was fairly mild in flavor, despite the long list of ingredients. If you love a tuna tartare, it’s definitely a must-try, but if not, you might want to skip it.

The second tasting on our list was the Slow-Roasted Prime Rib. It’s reminiscent of a prime rib sandwich with the au jus and the blue cheese. There’s also a zingy horseradish component that we loved. The flavors really show up in this one!

The Miso-Broiled Bass was tender and buttery, and we were OBSESSED. We stopped and got a couple of these; they were that good! There’s a little bit of sweetness overall, and that really just puts it over the edge.

The bacon-wrapped scallops were deliciously salty and savory, and would be a hit for meat lovers. The bacon was nice and crispy, so the texture contrasts well with the chewier scallop. YUM.

If you’re a mushroom fan, you’ll need to try the Bourbon Mushroom Skewer. It was soft with some charred bits and really tasted more like piece of steak thanks to the seasoning.

For something sweet, we had the Chocolate Truffle. It’s a milk chocolate-dipped truffle with a layer of fudge brownie underneath, and it was RICH. It has a slight bitterness from a darker, less sweet chocolate, and then there’s a hidden layer of peanut butter inside. If you love the combination of chocolate and peanut butter, this is for you.

Of course, we also got to try some drinks. The Polite Company is a non-alcoholic mocktail with a bubbly base and notes of citrus. It was kind of like tasting a fake alcoholic fruit punch. Honestly, this was quite good, and we wanted to continue sipping on it throughout the event!

The Hugo Spritz is made with elderflower liqueur, Prosecco, and club soda. It was similar to a mojito with lots of mint and a freeze-dried lemon wedge, but it had a light spritziness on the back end.

Finally, there was the Ring of Fire, which is mezcal, tequila, lime, and a house-made chipotle sauce. This is designed for those who love a smoky mezcal drink, but if you don’t, you might still be able to handle it. A little bit of ginger and pineapple juice helped temper down that smokiness, and overall, it was fun and unique.

Ring of Fire

That’s a wrap on our visit to Bourbon Steak! The restaurant officially opens on July 26th at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin. This could be a great way to level up your dining experience on your Disney World vacation.
