Picture this: you wake up at your Disney World resort, you know your first Lightning Lane and what attraction you’re heading to first, and how you’re going to get there (and the correct answer is Monorail). You grabbed your Mickey ears and are heading out the door when BAM, the morning hunger hits you.

We know breakfast is probably the last thing on your mind for your perfect park day, but some great, quick, grab-and-go options can make your morning in Disney so much easier. We headed to Kona Island at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to see if this spot is worth the stop.
Background
Kona Island is a small coffee stand in the Polynesian that has grab-and-go options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

We stopped by for breakfast and ordered a few options from the pastry case.
Atmosphere
This small stop doesn’t have too much space to sit, but you can wander around the hotel to find more seating.

You can even take it outside and sit by the water to have a relaxing moment before you rush to your first attraction!
Food & Drinks
We started off our breakfast with a Cinnamon Roll for $4.99.

Upon our first bite, we thought that this was not a good cinnamon roll. It is super dry, it is hard on the outside, it’s difficult to eat. But by the time we got to the middle, our opinion had changed. When you get a piece from the inside that’s like super doughy and it has that thick layer of cinnamon sugar filling, it’s basically perfect. We don’t think there’s enough filling, and there is definitely not enough icing.
It’s not overly dry, but it’s certainly not the best cinnamon roll in Disney World — Gaston’s is still where you want to go for that. If you’ve ever had a cinnamon roll from a hotel continental breakfast, that’s what this reminded us of.

We also got the Blueberry Muffin for $4.99.

This was SUCH a hit. It was almost like eating pound cake — it was incredibly dense but still fluffy, and definitely more on the cake side of things. There are whole, fresh blueberries in here, but we do wish there had been more of them. We also wish the streusel topping had been more abundant — it kind of seemed like it melted away. Another solid option, but nothing to go out of your way for.

For a savory option, we ordered the Bacon, Cheddar, and Egg Croissant for $6.99. Except, they were out of bacon, so this is just a cheddar and egg croissant.

Our expectations were pretty low here, especially after hearing that they were out of bacon the day we visited. There was a TON of ooey, gooey cheese sandwiched between the eggs, which were pretty fluffy. The croissant is a little sweet and buttery and super flaky, but not too much that your entire meal is falling apart. This is a super solid option if you’re looking for a quick, savory breakfast at the Poly!
To round off our meal, we had the Chocolate-Hazelnut Croissant for $4.79.

We really wanted to love this, and as chocolate-hazelnut spread lovers, we were disappointed. There was not enough of the spread in the filling, and instead, there were a lot of dark chocolate chunks. Normally, we wouldn’t mind this, but they were a bit on the bitter side, which kind of made the whole pastry taste off. The croissant itself was fluffy and flaky, but it still didn’t save it.

Is Kona Island worth a stop on your next trip?
Magic or Tragic?
You should add Kona Island to your breakfast list if…
- You’re staying at the Polynesian Resort and are looking for a quick, grab-and-go breakfast.
- You’re looking for some coffee and pastries along the monorail loop.
- You don’t want to have a long, sit-down breakfast meal.
Kona Island might be a skip if…
- You’re not staying at the Polynesian. It’s probably not worth going out of your way for!
- You want a sit-down or character dining experience for breakfast.
We’re going to be keeping Kona Island on our top quick breakfast list for the Polynesian, but in the meantime, make sure you keep following AllEars for all the details you need for your next Disney World vacation.
