More than 1.1 million power banks have been recalled.

After users reported fires and explosions, Anker Innovations has recalled millions of its products. The product that is specifically being recalled is the Anker PowerCore 10000 power bank.
If you have an Anker power bank, you need to read this. According to Fox11 News, millions of these power banks have been recalled due to reported fires and explosions. The company reported that issues come from the lithium-ion battery in the Anker PowerCore 10000 power banks.

The battery is overheating, “leading to melting of plastic components, smoke, and fire hazards,” according to the company. The recall applies specifically to the PowerCore 10000 banks that have the model number “A1263” and contain serial numbers sold in the United States. You can see an example of this specific charger below.

You can find the model and the serial numbers on the bottom of your portable charger if you are concerned that you own this model. This particular model was sold between June 2016 and December 2022.

The recall is due to “an abundance of caution,” and there have only been 19 reported incidents of fires and explosions connected to this model. Over $60,700 worth of damage came from 11 of these incidents, and 2 of them resulted in minor burns that didn’t require medical attention.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) stated that users should stop using these power banks immediately. You can also contact Anker Innovations for instructions on how you can receive a free replacement. On the Anker website, the company wrote, “Even if it appears to function normally, there may still be a risk of overheating, fire, or other safety issues.”

To get your replacement, you will need to provide a photo with the model and serial number, your name, the date of the picture, and the word “recalled” written on the item in a permanent marker. You will also have to provide proof that you safely disposed of the portable charger.

The company says they must be disposed at a specific facility that “accepts recalled lithium batteries,” and you cannot just throw them away in a normal trash can at home. You can choose either way for a replacement or receive a $30 gift card if power banks are on back order. As always, be sure to keep following AllEars for more product news and updates.
