It’s official — the newest ‘Harry Potter’ series has locked in six actors for key roles in the show.

Things have been quiet since we’ve heard any updates about the upcoming ‘Harry Potter’ series, and now at last, we finally have some casting confirmations.
Variety has confirmed that the first wave of casting has been selected for the upcoming Harry Potter series. This show will depict a “faithful adaptation” of the global phenomenon of the popular J.K. Rowling book series. HBO went on to explain that this new series aims to “[explore} every corner of the wizarding world” and plans to highlight a new adventure with each season.

As for who was chosen in the first castings for this new series, “the casting of John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, Nick Frost, Luke Thallon and Paul Whitehouse to play Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid, Quirrell and Filch,” were all confirmed by Francesca Gardiner, the series showrunner and executive producer, and Mark Mylod, director of multiple episodes and executive producer. “We’re delighted to have such extraordinary talent onboard, and we can’t wait to see them bring these beloved characters to new life.” You may remember that the actors confirmed for Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, and Hagrid were already in talks with the series to their respective assigned roles.

These 6 are key staff to the Hogwarts school and will be series regulars or reoccurring roles where you’ll see their characters featured frequently as the story unfolds. As for the casting of the main roles of the highly anticipated series — Harry, Ron, and Hermione — those are still yet to be announced. Last fall, HBO launched an open casting call for the chance at portraying such beloved and renowned characters and received over 30,000 submissions. Filming for the new series is expected to start this summer.

It’s exciting news to learn who this series intends to move forward with and stay committed to the storyline in the beloved books. It appears we’ll just have to be patient for future announcements as to who else will be joining the cast and bringing the magic and wonder of the wizarding world to life on the screen again for existing and new audiences alike.
