Late summer at Disney World is infamous for less-than-ideal weather.

Late summer and early fall at Disney World mark the peak of hurricane season, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA). Specifically, September 10th, 2023 is said to mark this year’s peak. There’s already bad weather on the horizon, and if you’re at Disney World right now or planning to arrive within the next couple of days, you’ll want to listen up.
According to NBC News 2, Tropical Storm Idalia is projected to strengthen to a hurricane as it moves to the Southeastern Gulf of Mexico later on Monday, August 28th. Currently, a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties, all of which surround Disney World.

So, if you’re at Disney World, what can you expect if things progress? Well, even though central Florida is a pretty great distance away from the expected eye of the storm, you can still expect to experience potentially hazardous winds and a LOT of rainfall. If you’re in doubt, stay put! Don’t brave the storm and drive or walk anywhere.

While direct surge impacts aren’t currently anticipated, NBC told locals to prepare for potentially dangerous tornado events across east central Florida.

If severe enough, this storm could potentially cause park closures. If you’re unsure of whether or not you want to visit Disney World at this time, you can check out Disney’s cancellation policies here.
