Lots of people, us included, were so excited to see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever when it was released in theaters on November 11th.

Ahead of the release, we saw projections that the film was going to do very well on opening weekend. Maybe it’s because of the great marketing through merchandise, or just the fact that it’s a long-awaited sequel to a popular Marvel movie. Whatever the case may be, the film is living up to those projections and set a record as one of the highest-earning November film releases in America.
According to Variety, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever dominated the U.S. box office, earning $180 million on its opening weekend. Previously, the November record was held by the 2013 film The Hunger Games, which opened to $158 million domestically.

Globally, the film has made $330 million in its opening weekend with $150 million of that coming from overseas markets. This means it’s already made back what was spent on the film and then some, as the film itself cost $250 million to make during the height of the pandemic.

This also means the film has the second-biggest domestic debut of the year, behind only Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and is the third-best opener during this pandemic era, behind the aforementioned Doctor Strange film and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
