Disney+ Working on New ‘King Kong’ Series

Disney+ has been making a TON of original content in the past few years.

We’ve seen several new Marvel and Star Wars shows, as well as movies like Lady and the Tramp and Pixar’s Turning Red. It doesn’t seem like Disney is going to slow down any time soon with all of the plans they have for the future. And, we just learned about a new TV show in development at Disney+ that might surprise you.

Disney is working on a King Kong TV series for Disney+, according to Deadline. They say Disney Branded Television is in very early development for the series about the famous monster. This would be the first live-action series in the King Kong universe.

It is described as an action-adventure drama that “brings the classic monster story into the modern age, with a return to Skull Island and the dawn of a new Kong,” according to Deadline.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong at Universal Orlando

The series is expected to explore King Kong’s origin story and the mysteries of his home. It will be based on material from Merian C. Cooper’s original books and Joe DeVito’s new King Kong novelizations.

There was a different live-action King Kong series in the works years ago at MarVista Entertainment and IM Global Television called King Kong Skull Island, but it did not end up happening.
