If you’ve ever wanted to live in Disney, now’s your chance!
Recently, Disney announced plans for a new residential community located in Rancho Mirage, California. This new development is called Cotino, and will be the first community created by Storyliving by Disney, a new facet of Disney dedicated to creating new neighborhoods.
This new development in California was announced a while ago, without any specific details, but it has now been announced that Disney will be holding a private groundbreaking ceremony at Cotino TODAY at 10AM, according to an article in KESQ News Channel 3, a local news outlet.
Construction will begin with grading the land, which could take anywhere from six to nine months. A spokesman for the Rancho Mirage City Council said they have not yet received specific building plans for the community and that while initial proposals for Cotino have been approved, it still must go through the application and approval process which includes a presentation before the Architectural Review Board, the Planning Commission, and finally the City Council. At the City Council meeting, the public will be able to give their opinions on the new community.
Local community members have some concerns surrounding this new development, specifically surrounding the water usage. However, water officials in the area say that there is no reason for concern and there is enough groundwater in the area to support the neighborhood. Furthermore, the officials say that the plan was approved several years ago. Locals are also concerned about the impacts the community will have on traffic and affordable housing in the area.
Cotino will offer neighborhoods in many forms, including an age-restricted neighborhood only for those 55 and up, similar to a plan that has been proposed for a community in Orlando. Cotino will not only be filled with homes, it will also feature restaurants, retail spaces, and even a public 24-acre lagoon.
