NEWS: Disney Is Designing NEW Residential Communities

Have you ever dreamed of living in Disneyland or Disney World?

Our dream home

Imagine the magic around every corner, just waiting for you — Disney communities do exist, and with that comes all the bells and whistles you might expect from a Disney vacation. And now, Disney has announced an expansion to their lineup of planned living locations — let’s check out the details!

According to Disney, the new project called Storyliving by Disney plans to introduce “vibrant new neighborhoods that are infused with our special brand of magic”.

Disney intends for these communities to “foster new friendships”, and will also include neighborhoods specifically designed for residents ages 55+ — like the age-restricted neighborhood potentially planned for Orlando.

So, where will the very first Storyliving by Disney neighborhood be developed? In Rancho Mirage, California — an area that Walt and Lillian Disney often vacationed to. The California development will be known as Cotino.

Disney plans to work with respected real estate developers and home builders at each residential location, and residents will have the opportunity to participate in activities like wellness programming, live performances, cooking classes, and more!

Disney has yet to share when these communities will be developed or all the locations in which they’ve been planned, but for now you can visit the website here. Additionally, you can listen to the D23 podcast where an Imagineer shares more details!

  1. “vibrant new neighborhoods that are infused with our special brand of magic”. I don’t really care for Disney’s “special brand of magic” anymore. Are these going to be communities where the property tax rates go up every 6 months while public services are discontinued on a regular basis? Houses here in middle TN are high enough without paying the Disney premium.

  2. My guess is that Chapek is looking into Disney Gas stations, as fuel is so profitable now and Disney Shopping and Home delivery…they could compete with Amazon.
As the plaque on Chapek’s desk says, “The Buck Comes Here!”

  3. Oh, I forgot to mention that Disney is just franchising these communities. Disney has no real stake in them other than their name. They are all being developed by independent developers and builders. I’m as likely to be Buzz Lightyear as these communities are to be Disney.

  4. It’s just Disney cashing in on its brand until all its value is gone. Whether it’s this or remaking classic animation as live-action, Disney knows that if you put the Disney label on a pig, a lot of people will buy Disney pigs (or whatever a Figment is). Fortunately, I am not one of those people anymore. The brand is tarnished beyond recognition.

  5. It’s as if this Chapek leadership team is going out of their way to do things that didn’t work in the past. Seems no one remembers Disney’s Celebration neighborhood and the reasons why they got out of that business, and Celebration is near WDW and they still couldn’t make it work. So let’s try again! Just “harder”!
