NEWS: Florida’s Orange County Listed as “Rapid Riser” in White House COVID Report

We’ve been keeping an eye on updates to the COVID-19 situation in Central Florida.

Earlier this week, the CDC moved Orange County, Florida — one of the counties in which Disney World is located — to the “Substantial” category of COVID transmission. This is the second-highest level on the scale currently used by the CDC.

The White House’s latest coronavirus report also includes notable information about Orange County, which is shown as a “rapid riser county,” the only one currently listed as such in the state.

This week, the Florida Department of Health reported 10,892 new coronavirus cases among Florida residents, 905 of which came from Orange County. It’s noted that this number only includes residents of the state, as non-resident case numbers are not available.

The statewide positivity rate also increased slightly to 2.5% from 2.4%, the highest the rate has been since the last week of October.
