NEWS: CDC Updates Masks Recommendations for Florida’s Orange County

Since the pandemic, Disney World has been following CDC guidelines when it comes to face mask mandates and social distancing.

We’ve seen the policies adjust several times in the parks as recommendations change and are updated. Now, the CDC has NEW recommendations for mask mandates in Disney World based on the current levels of COVID-19 cases in the area.

According to the CDC’s COVID tracker, Orange County in Florida has now entered the “moderate” level tier when it comes to community transmission. This is down from the “substantial” tier that Orange County was at previously.

The CDC’s recommendation for counties in this tier is for unvaccinated people to wear a mask in “public, indoor settings.” Parts of Disney World are in Orange County, and other parts are in the neighboring Osceola County. Osceola County is still in the “substantial” tier for community transmission.

Recommendations for this tier are that everyone (regardless of vaccination status) should wear a mask in public, indoor settings. This is the current policy in Disney World, with masks being required indoors at gift shops, indoor attractions, ride queues, restaurants, etc.

Mask policies in Disney World

For about a month during this past summer, Disney World changed this policy to only apply to unvaccinated individuals (with masks not being required at all for vaccinated people). However, shortly after this policy change, the CDC’s recommendations were updated again, and Disney World reinstated the mask mandate for all guests at indoor locations.

If the community transmission risk in Osceola County is lowered to “moderate,” like it has been for Orange County, we could potentially see Disney World’s policy change again. Disney World has shown that they will continue to update the requirements based on the CDC’s recommendations, which could mean that masks will no longer be required indoors if both counties achieve “moderate” status.

  1. I get you don’t want to wear a mask or make young children wear them. But let me tell you a story. My wife has a friend who lives in Maryland. Her two brothers lived together. One vaccinated, the other refused. Both got Covid. The vaccinated brother was discharged from the hospital to rehab. The other brother was discharged from the hospital to the undertaker. Keep telling yourself this won’t happen to me. As the numbers across the country rise again. A mask is a small price to pay when you think of the possible alternatives.

  2. Had a trip planned for Thanksgiving week, but had to cancel since I have a problem wearing a mask and the WHO states children under six should not wear a mask. Therefore will not go through the hassle of putting one on my two year old grandson. Guess someone else will benefit from our having to cancel. Hope Disney comes to their senses soo, before they loose even more of us diehard Disney fans overf this and all the new rules and take aways.

  3. I can have people without masks packed next to me during the fireworks, but have to wear a mask indoors? I guess that social distancing is not important at these events. Why get vaccinated if you have to wear a mask anyways. Masks are great money makers for Disney and they have to get rid of their inventory.

    1. Exactly. I think it’s pretty sad when they had dropped the price of the masks when it looked like we wouldn’t be needing them anymore, and the minute the CDC said we should wear them again, they jacked their prices right back up! It’s one thing if you want to jack the prices of everything else up, but when you take advantage of a virus outbreak to make the most profit you can make? Disgusting.
