Although the owners of the first home where Walt and Roy Disney lived in Los Angeles wanted the house torn down, fate seems to have another destiny in mind for the building.

Instead, the building has been designated as a Los Angeles Historical Cultural Monument. And plans are underway to restore it.
The Charlotte and Robert Disney House is located at 4406 West Kingswell Avenue and is where Walt and Roy first lived when they moved to Los Angeles — it’s the location where Walt began entertaining the idea of Walt Disney Studios.

Deadline reports that plans are now underway to restore the house to its original standard, including a shed where Walt reportedly finished a series of animated/live-action shorts called The Alice Comedies. According to Disney legend, the house was originally owned by Walt’s aunt and uncle, who let him stay there in 1923. The home stayed in the Disney family for 30 years, then changed owners twice.
The most recent owners wanted to tear the building down and build a new house on the property, but public outcry changed their minds.
We don’t have any information yet on whether the house might become a museum for guests to visit in the future, but if we learn more about the renovation details, we’ll let you know.
