Last year, during Disney’s Investor Day, TONS of new Marvel, Disney Animation, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and MORE movies and shows were announced for Disney+ and theaters.
But, there’s MORE! Today, news has been shared about an upcoming Disney+ movie adaptation of a popular book about Hawaiian cowboys!
According to Deadline, Disney is looking to create a movie adaptation of the popular book, Aloha Rodeo. The movie is set to be developed by the Disney live action team for a release on Disney+. Disney has now chosen Chris Kekaniokalani Bright to adapt the Aloha Rodeo book to a film script. Jeremy Latcham is attached to the project to produce the film.
Aloha Rodeo was written by David Woman and Julian Smith. The book is based on the untold true story of Hawaiian cowboys. It follows three Hawaiian cowboys who traveled from Hawaii to Wyoming in 1908 in order to compete in the Frontier Days Championship Roping Competition.
The paniolos (Hawaiian cowboys) “performed feats that the mainlanders had never dreamed of before” and surprised their competitors and the country, returning home champions and legends. The back of the book describes how they brought a great sense of pride to their people.
